Is it me, or are there major issues with iTunes update 10.4.0.80?

Is it me, or are there major issues with iTunes update 10.4.0.80? I cannot get it to connect to the iTunes store, nor will it back-up my iPhone. I also cannot paste album art. I see a lot of posts referring to the same issues, but no official replies from Apple. It's as if they are acting as if there is nothing wrong.

I skimmed this thread and haven't seen my issue brought up yet. I've also had this problem just since the latest update to 10.4. I am unable to see anything that I add to my Music Library. Whether I drag-n-drop or "Import," the files don't show up. Now, I know they're *there,* I just can't see them (or delete them if I want). I know this because if I make a new playlist and drag mp3s there, they DO show up on the playlist. If I right click and select "Show in playlist--" the first option which is usually "Music" (Music Library) is not there. If I right click on a song in that playlist and select "Get Info" it will tell me the file's location on my HDD, so I know it's there. I just can't see it in my Music Library.

The other night, everything I had attempted to add the day before suddenly appeared in my Music Library as if they had been there all along. So I know they were there, they just took 24 hours to show up finally. Now everything I've tried to add since then, again, are not showing up. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but I'm about to try the posted instructions on how to fully uninstall and then roll back to 10.3.

In short, 10.4 is a bloody mess! Whoever approved its release should be fired.

I agree. I have for the first time set up a zoon account in response to Apple's migration to something that I no longer want to be apart of. The downloads at zoon were at 320kbps and sounded good.

I have always been fond of the iTunes music store and even the software until version 10.0 and later. It is like they are forcing pre-existing customers to operate under just the Apple realm, but I am not. I have also recently found out that iTunes store purchases can play in third party music management softwares. As long as Apple keeps stripping iTunes of functionality its competition will continue to proliferate and flourish.

I uninstalled everything Apple, reinstalled iTunes 10.3, and all is now fine. Here are my detailed notes, which follow suggetions from this forum and from support.apple. Thanks to all contributors!

(I)

Followed suggestions in support.apple.com forum:

1. Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order. Then, restart your computer.

iTunes

QuickTime

Apple Software Update

Apple Mobile Device Support

Bonjour

Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

(II)

Navigate to your iTunes music folder and rename the iTunes Library.itl file to iTunes Library.itl.bak.

Open the folder Previous Itunes Libraries; find one that created before 10.4 was installed, then copy that file to the same directory where you renamed iTunes Library.itl.bak and rename the file you copy to iTunes Library.itl .

(III) reboot

(IV) Cleaned up the register with jv16 (which I like alot: http://www.macecraft.com/)

Took 14 min

(V) Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled

In most cases removing iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel will remove all supporting files belonging to those programs. In some rare cases those files may be left behind. After following the previous steps, you should confirm that the following files and folders have been removed and if any are left behind, remove them now:

C:\Program Files\Bonjour

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\

C:\Program Files\iTunes\

C:\Program Files\iPod\ Note: Follow the additional steps at the end of this article if you receive the alert "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program" when trying to delete this folder.

C:\Program Files\QuickTime\

C:\Windows\System32\QuickTime

C:\Windows\System32\QuickTimeVR

All gone were except for C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ which has Mobile Device Support.

Could find no Services with that name. Deleted the folder \Program Files\Common Files\Apple successfully

Uninstalled Mobile Me Control Panel

(V) Reinstall iTunes 10.3.1 (is actually 10.3.1.55) from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1103

Before I approved the update, I turned off: automatically update iTunes and other Apple Software.

This also installs QuickTime 7.69.80.9

It worked! Could get to Apple Store; it recognized my iPhone (altho the USB drivers show up under Imaging Devices: Apple iPhone #2 and Apple Mobile Device USB Driver)

WOW! I never want to go through that again!!

I no longer trust Apple software... will have to Google any update before I install it.

Yes having several issues with this new update.

Computer: Windows 7 Ultimate

Service Pack 1

System type: 64-bit

Problems with: iTouch (software version: 4.2.1 both 16 gb and 32 gb) as well as iPad 1 32 gb (2 of them) all items mentioned having issues since last sync with with connecting to our wifi - have to keep resetting and reentering password to get it to work. As well as having problems with sync saying "iTunes was unable to load provider data from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later." Wondering if these two issues are related. Also tried to play CityVille Hometown on iTouchs and get the message that "Sorry, the game cannot run on this device." When the app store says it can. Are all these issue related???? Anyone know? So far 3 iPhones and 1 classic iPod and 1 Nano running fine.

carlmm,

I had the problem cleared using essentially the same process and all was well. Then I scrubbed my library and it recurred. And since the library then changed I had to resync my 64GB iPod Touch and 32GB iPad which took a very long time. Then for whatever reason, I could not reach the store again, though I could update apps. I had to uninstall, reinstall and resync all over again.

Apple finally responded that the problem was in my computer, not with their software.

A LUDICROUS REPLY!!!!!!!!!

So i am syncing 12500 (99.3 GB) individual pieces of music to GOOGLE MUSIC MANAGER BETA and thinking I may need to change the way I use music. I have spent over $2,000 in the Apple Store on media, but may now be finished!!!

I am using Windows Vista SP2 and having the same problems with the version 10.4.0.80 (which I upgraded to a few days back). I am not being able to connect to the itunes store since then, though i have been able to connect to the net and work on the net. I have tried all sorts of things with firewall and all the stuff which I got to know from the net, except for the final kill of reinstalling the whole thing which seems to be big task. On running diagnostic I get a message saying 'Secure connection to itunes failed' and when I go to 'Help' it says 'You are not connected to the net'. Anything else which I can do or would I have to wait for apple to respond to the huge number of requests for getting their act together. I have started having second thoughts of going in for apple products , if this remains the trend. Somebody with a more basic solution please HELP!!!

The bottom line is this. Apple did some things to their software which has caused a problem. Their silence on this is to be expected. Yes, there appear to be some work arounds which from what I can see means reverting back to the previous version which was more stable. I have seen some people on here uninstall everything Apple and then re-install, some with success and some without. I would say this. If you have this need to access the Apple store via Itunes, then revert back to the previous stable version. However if you are not at all concerned about accessing the store or backing up your phone, then just wait till the next version comes out. I have no idea when they will put out a new version but I would suspect it would be sometime soon. As for me, there is nothing that I need to have from the Itunes store so I am going to wait. IN other words, they will be losing some business. Sure, when they get it fixed, I will go buy the stuff I want so they are not going to be really out anything at all in the long run.

raharris3,

<<I had the problem cleared using essentially the same process and all was well. Then I scrubbed my library and it recurred. >>

I don't know what "scrubbed my library" means. Looked it up on Google -- found descriptions of scrubbing a single song. What does scrubbing a library mean?

You say you used "essentially the same process" -- what differed? Did you revert to 10.3? Did you revert to the previous \iTunes Library.itl ?

Is it me, or are there major issues with iTunes update 10.4.0.80?
