Is it me, or are there major issues with iTunes update 10.4.0.80?

Is it me, or are there major issues with iTunes update 10.4.0.80? I cannot get it to connect to the iTunes store, nor will it back-up my iPhone. I also cannot paste album art. I see a lot of posts referring to the same issues, but no official replies from Apple. It's as if they are acting as if there is nothing wrong.

"Video optimization" of iTunes 10.4.0.80 doesn't work.

I'm using vista+ipad2, and re-installing everything doesn't make any difference.

Some workarounds though :

1. Roll-back to previous version of iTunes (complicated but the only one that fully resolve the problem:some people already explained how to do it)

2. Prevent iTunes from optimizing videos. To do this:

.Convert your DVD and videos to an apple compatible format ( using for example freemaker)

.Don't use the Photo tab to import your videos to your iPad, because iTunes always tries to optimize your media when using this way. Instead prefer importing your videos to the Video or Tv show tab. No optimization will be applied to them and they will be transferred as they are to the iPad.( If you don't want that a copy of your video is created in the iTunes library, you must check-out this option in iTunes)

3. Use anSd card, and the Sd card adaptor to transfer your videofiles

I hope these helps somebody . I've done workaround nb 2 while waiting for iTunes 10.5

I hope one day we can import media to the photo tab without "being optimized". This will make iPad a great tool for video editing.

I have also had a major experience with my iTunes upgrade. After reboot, my pc was running really slow, so I looked at the task manager, and my cpu was running at 100%. Somethig was running full force in a continuous loop. Next thing I knew, my hard drive crashed. Took it to repair yesterday and they informed me that no data was recoverable! Including all the pictures I had taken of the damage caused by the EF5 tornado in Joplin, Missouri that I had not backed up yet!! Now, not only am I out my data, but a $350 repair bill! All I get from Apple is a generic e-mail about looking in these forums for a solution. And then I find out Apple is going to start charging for their service?! I just might have to go to brand x unless they do some major a-- kissing!

I'm having the same issues.... iTunes is telling me I need to update both my iPad and my son's iTouch... but neither is able to actually backup. I have windows 7 as well and both devices are registered to this computer but the iTunes is telling me I can't back up to this machine.... I hope apple hears out requests for help... I've tried some of these suggestions but with no luck.. I hope they fix this soon!

I wish I had never upgraded to 10.4.0.80!!! The problems are numerous and have affected all of my devices:

1. After 10.4 upgrade, iTunes said that my iPad had been synced with another PC (it had not)

2. Since I was forced to restore iPad from a previous back-up, lost three days of personal financials in iPad

3. After restore, iTunes won't sync my iPad any more, says backup is corrupt or incompatible with device

4. AppleTV sees my PC library but cannot load the media

5. iPod Touch will no longer sync

6. Issues connecting to Apple iTunes Store

Apple Tech Support wanted me to pay to get it fixed but evenutally offered to assist for free. Unfortunately, after doing everything they requested of me, I am still at the point that I cannot sync/upgrade/backup my devices using iTunes 10.4. I hope 10.5 is coming soon and fixes all of these issues.

I have removed all Apple software in the order listed in this forum (twice), downloaded and ran CCleaner multiple times and rebooted after each change. I have spent no less than 15 hours this past week trying to get my laptop to stop clocking and get a good sync on my iphone 4. I'm running Win7 64. NOTHING HAS WORKED. I guess I should not complain, I can get to the Apple store and can get a completed sync if I uncheck "sync videos". My PC is so slow, I'm beginning to think about reinstalling Windows. I am going to the Apple store this week-end to see if one of the Genius guys can help. I want them to look me in the eye and tell me, there is nothing wrong with 10.4.8. I'm guessing only PCs are having this trouble, and not Mac's?

I'd like to add my thanks as well Andrew : W7 64b, ITunes 10.4.0.80. Internet OK, all diags would pass, but could not connect to store, apart from the occasional blue text hyperlink. Also problems syncing and updating 2 IPhoneys and an IPhad. ITunes Diags all passed..... but the process in your link sorted it. As an IT suppport pro geek since the 80's I get terribly frustrated at Apple's lock of access to the OS for error reporting, diags and testing. Androids rock 👿 !

Hi to all

I have solved it on my computer and got iTunes store working

again after a lot of effort and troubleshooting.

I have a Windows PC with 64 bit, after upgrading to the newest

version of iTunes, it all went terribly wrong!

iTunes would start, I could see my library, sign into my iTunes

account and go to Radio and listen to

internet streamed radio channels BUT NOT ACCESS THE iTUNES STORE.

This meant I could not view the iTunes store at all or buy from

iTunes or sync my iPad.

First search for and read the article in Apple help titled:

Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other

software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Article:HT1923.

First quit the following programs if running:

iTunes, QuickTime and Apple Software Update.

As it says use Control Panel in Windows to uninstall iTunes and

related software components in the following order and then

restart your computer:

1. iTunes

2. QuickTime

3. Apple Software Update

4. Apple Mobile Device Support

5. Bonjour

6. Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

Follow the uninstallations in this EXACT ORDER.
Then Restart your Computer.

Now check to see that all files and folders were indeed removed.

C:\Program Files\Bonjour

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple

C:\Program Files\iTunes

C:\Program Files\iPod

C:\Program Files\QuickTime

C:\Windows\System32\QuickTime

C:\Windows\System32\QuictTime VR

C:\Program Files (x86)\Bonjour

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple

C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes

C:\Program Files (x86)\iPod

C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\QuickTime

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\QuickTimeVR

I deleted all of the above Folders.

I then went to my MyMusic\iTunes folder.

DO NOT DELETE the iTunes Media or the Previous iTunes Libraries

folder.
I did delete all of the other things in the iTunes folder.
Again do not delete the iTunes Media folder or you will loose
all of your music, podcasts, books, apps etc...
Then I restarted my computer again.
Then I got on the internet and went

to:http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1427
This is the latest version of iTunes 10.4 for Windows 64 bit
users. Only download this version if you do have a Windows 64 bit
system.
I downloaded it and then ran it to install iTunes and Quicktime.
Before installing I did not disable my Firewall or my Anti-Virus
software.
It installed and I chose to start iTunes on finishing.
iTunes did not start. This I solved by going to Start\All

Programs\iTunes. I highlighted iTunes icon, right clicked and

chose Run as Administrator.
iTunes started and immediately connected with the iTunes store.
Even if I have to do this Run as Administrator routine each time
I'm still happy I got it running again.
I have not tried syncing my iPad again but think that it should

be ok.
I have not tried to use an old library. I think I will start

fresh and keep my new library smaller.

I will be much more cautious about updating iTunes in the future!

At the very least I will set a custom system restore point before

accepting any kind of update again. If it goes wrong then I can

restore the system back again to the last version of iTunes

before the update.

Hope that this helps people!

I am using iTunes Version 10.3.4.55 it works fine on my Win XP Pro SP3 machine. I guess fortunately for me when I received the notice of update, my machine would not allow it to install.

it shows Version 10.4 is available, but when I try to download and install it shows it is downloading Ver 2.1.3.

I went on figuring if it aint broke don't fix it... I tried to contact support at Apple, it was a joke, they expect me to pay a service fee to notify them they have a bug to fix! F**k them!

abnout the only thing I download from iTunes are apps I prefer my Zune player for music and videos!

Hello,

I read everything in this thread and followed the suggestion to remove all Apple programs from my XP sp3 PC and started up my pc again. There was still something running, but in the end, every apple program was removed. After starting up again, I downloaded the new iTunes and it seems everything is working fine at this time.

I didn't try everything yet, but so far, so good....

It seems my iPhone syncs again with my outlook, and that was the most important for me.

Is it me, or are there major issues with iTunes update 10.4.0.80?
