DO NOT UPGRADE TO LION!

Lion may well turn into to Apple's Vista. I've used Apple products since 1981, and I've never experienced anything like this. The so-called upgrade has so far:

1. Broken Mail and all it's contents. No obvious solution that doesn't result in losing all folders.

2. Time Capsule, by virtue of a complete new backup of the HD, eliminates most history as there typically isn't sufficient memory for the doubling up. NO WARNINGS. Just gone.

3. Applications that don't play nice with Lion (PPC apps, Adobe apps, Microsoft apps) are just eliminated when a TC restore is done following the upgrade.

4. Apparently going back to Snow Leopard is problematic, if even possible.

I hate that I didn't wait. What an idiot.

He's not a troll! That's a cheap shot!

His problems mirror my own. I've been using Macs since '86 and this is more like a Windows experience!

I installed four days ago and have had nothing but trouble!

Endless beachball, endless relaunches of Finder that never recovers, two dozen hard re-boots, crashing Adobe products, crashing preview, fer christ's sake!!

I wish I was back in Snow Leopard.

What a horror show! All Power PC programs gone. Big X over them in the dashboard. I cannot believe this is an Apple product. It does not allow for sane restoration of Snow Leopard. I have to copy 500 G of images and documents and do a clean wipe and reinstall SL. What a senseless ill planned upgrade. For the first time since my first MAC in 1984, ashamed to be a MAC user. All for what? Cosmetics.

I had 2 PPC programs left. Didn't need either. Found better alternatives. My upgrade was quick, smooth and without a hiccup. Other than Rosetta being dropped, I don't find too much different in Lion. A few Interface changes I am already used to. Love Mission Control, Verions and Resume. Still not a fan of Dashboard, so I just choose not to use it. Improved speed and stability even running on the 3GB RAM installed.

East to downgrade if you have backups. (You do keep backups don't you?)

I agree except that as much as I dislike Intuit, I really do miss Quicken. There is nothing that comes remotely close.

Be interesting to see if they come through with the 2012 update as they have claimed will be released. I don't use it, but I have seen many here who have relied on it for a long time. If they are serious about being a respectable software company, then lets see if they can keep up with Apple and Windows new OSs.

Cheers

Too late for me. As far as I'm concerned, they can go pound sand.

I think you are all sadly misinformed. If i had a penny from everyone who thought they knew what they were talking about because they've owned a mac since the 80's.... There isn't anything wrong with the OS. To compare it to Windows Vista is a sad comparison to say the least.

So lets take a look at what you think is Broken.

  1. Mail - Mail is better than ever. Don't blame the OS or Apple because you forgot your password or your apple ID if you're using iCloud, or because you've configured the same account more than once. Using AOL are You? it's a know problem that the AOL servers are not playing nice with Lion. Blame AOL or get a real internet Provider, Afterall it is AOL handling your mail mail, not apple.
  2. PPC Apps - Quit complaining about your 5yr old applications not working anymore. Pull your wallet out your *** and upgrade to new version that were made this century. Software isn't designed to be a one time purchase. You have to actually upgrade every so often to the latest version to guarantee compatibility with newer operating systems. Apple has been using the Intel Architecture for years and years now. Quit crying to Apple because Intuit dropped the ball on Quicken 2007. You do know they made Quicken essentials don't you. Works great for all your Basic banking needs.
  3. Time Machine - Yes Time Machine is going to create a whole new backup, that's what it is suppose to do. that is actually what you want. You can't restore an older version of anything on to a newer version of itself. That's how you end up with version conflicts.
  4. Adobe Applications - These are applications made from Adobe. Do i really need to get into this one?
  5. NTFS Support - Apple Never Supported NTFS RW to begin with. It's always been RO. Nothing has changed here. It is still RO. If you were enjoying RW on an NTFS volume then you were doing so through a 3rd party app or hack that wasn't coming from Apple to begin with.
  6. General Slowness - Why do you insist on blaming Apple that your 2006 model imac with 2GB of memory that is now running slow is apple's fault. I bet you haven't even ran repair disk permission from recovery hd have you? you automatically assume apple broke your computer thats out of warranty. clear out your cache folder at all? give it a try. it nots hard.

I think you're all are whining about a whole lot of nothing.

Five year old apps were new THIS century. Some of us are having trouble keeping any money in those wallets these days, or did you miss the whole Occupy thing?

"Adobe Applications - These are applications made from Adobe. Do i really need to get into this one?"

They worked fine in SL! ...and for many of us, this IS the way we make our money!! If they're not going to work in Lion, we NEED to make a change! That's just simple economics. (Saint Steve, if this is one of your guys, you need to give him a talking to.)

Besides, I've had episodes of Lion not even being able to work...WITH ITSELF!!

DO NOT UPGRADE TO LION!
