DO NOT UPGRADE TO LION!

Lion may well turn into to Apple's Vista. I've used Apple products since 1981, and I've never experienced anything like this. The so-called upgrade has so far:

1. Broken Mail and all it's contents. No obvious solution that doesn't result in losing all folders.

2. Time Capsule, by virtue of a complete new backup of the HD, eliminates most history as there typically isn't sufficient memory for the doubling up. NO WARNINGS. Just gone.

3. Applications that don't play nice with Lion (PPC apps, Adobe apps, Microsoft apps) are just eliminated when a TC restore is done following the upgrade.

4. Apparently going back to Snow Leopard is problematic, if even possible.

I hate that I didn't wait. What an idiot.

Just the truth. You ascribe importance, not me. I just do what I have been doing for 40 years same employer. Boring fellow really. Just panic at the moment. Sorry. I now remember why I try to avoid forums.

If you are serious about going back to Snow Leopard, and your Mac is not the brand new model shipped with Lion then you can

1. reinstall from your most recent Time Machine Backup

2. Try Kappy's excellent method as mentioned before

3. Try installing snow Leopard (or Lion) on a seperate partition or external drive as explained in many posts here, you just need to search.

Good Luck

PNG eliminates Lightroom but not iPhoto but it doesn't do batch edits. If it were me I'd do a batch conversion to jpeg, then import into Lightroom. Within LIghtroom you can do non-destructive batch edits to your hearts content, then do a slideshow directly from the selected images.

Apple's Aperture might also be a possibility but not sure about PNG with it.

As was mentioned elsewhere, creating a separate Snow Leopard partition would also work. I do that in order to run Quicken which can't run under Lion.

Yes is happened again, each time I upgrade my MAC.

I have to get a new printer, I have upgarded and my very expensive colour laser CLP-510 does not work and Samsung as before will not upgrade drivers for MAC only Windows, so it is back to horrible Windows for me, yuk!

Beware of upgarding to Lion you will have problem with drivers unlike windows.

Will give some thought of actually downgrading back to last version.

Be warned!

Graphic Coverter will do what you want in pdf, png, jpeg and a whole lo more.

If you want to resize the shots in batches you can do that easily in iPhoto. You can also use iPhoto Batch Enhancer to apply other edits in batches.

You can do these things also in Aperture.

All a lot cheaper than Lightroom. In fact, you can buy them all and still have change left over from the purchase price of Lightroom

If you aren't William Hamilton, and don't have a solution for him, please start a new topic thread. You'll get a wider audience and won't confuse William with solutions that don't pertain to him.

And William, look at what you started with a subject like that is ALL UPPERCASE. ALL UPPERCASE means shouting on the internet. A subject line like yours is only an invitation for trolls. Please rethink how you start threads. Instead of a subject like "Don't upgrade to XYZ", state what you find is incompatible with XYZ in the subject line, and just ask for alternatives.

Posting such unnecessary comments only leads to more of the type of replies that you are demanding people not make. It's counterproductive.

I agree with that. It actually works in the opposite direction. It's like a Judge telling the Jury to "erase that last bit of evidence you heard from your memory. It is inadmissable in this court." The only bit of evidence they will now remember is the bit the Judge has highlighted so effectively.

And this CAPITALS shouting thing? It is so old hat, so redundant and so wrong now. We use capitals everywhere to emphasise the language, so please STOP and LOOK before you cross the road. Emphasis, not shouting. The written word is exactly that, so it is incapable of shouting which is a vocal action.

Carry on.

😝

There are some 'high Level' users round here that appear to be riding on some very high horses. I guess they think with all those points they should be moderators rather than just ordinary community members like the rest of us.

I'm surprised he didn't actually advise himself to 'stop email notifications' (you know, up there on the right-hand side...). 😝

As it happens I did stop e-mail notifications when I saw where this was going. The only problem with the new forum design is the threads that were not subscribed still appear in your homepage on Discussions.

Regardless, I'm not attempting to moderate, I'm attempting to help people know that:

1. While Lion may have bugs, they shouldn't let the long threads make them believe that it is all bugs, or unusable.

2. There is a way to get more direct help.

3. If you seak more direct help, you'll get it more quickly, without having lots of unnecessary fluff end up in your inbox.

4. When seaking for help, it is best to ask for something kindly than with shouting, otherwise those who don't have the patience won't come to help them.

5. When seaking for help make every effort not to make it sound like you are complaining about a systemic issue. This only attracts more trolls to the boards, and nobody then gets help.

As a long time user, I hate to see counterproductive threads. I typically just skip over them.

Once in awhile I might break my own rule and see if I can help people find better help.
