Anyone using a Canon Selphy printer with Lion?

I have a Canon Selphy CP800 and it's quite important to me. Canon have not updated the drivers on their website yet and Apple don't list the CP800 as a compatibile printer. Has anyone actually upgraded to Lion and tried the 10.6 drivers for this or any other Selphy?

I'm holding off the Lion upgrade until I know that all my stuff is supported (take note whingers and whiners).

Any insight appreciated.

For me the provided driver-installer does not work in Lion, I get an error message during installation

No idea if it would keep on working if you already have it installed prior to upgrading

Dear all,

Many thanks for the input from users regarding the Selphy series USB PID information. The result is that apart from two devices, now all of the series are theoretically supported in the gutenprint driver in CVS (not the available 5.2.9 package), integrated with CUPS. I understand that compiling under Mac OSX is quite difficult, so most of the testing is presumably necessary to carry out under linux, but if anyone can test devices please post results to the gutenprint mailing list at gimp-print-devel@lists.sourceforge.net where discussions on development take place.

The missing devices are:

1. CP530

2. CP790

Interestingly, I got the following from Canon in response to an enquiry about likely availability of drivers for the ES1 on 10.8:

Thank you for your request and for contacting Canon.

In reference to your enquiry this is due the hardware limitations as they are unable to communicate with each other, our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

We hope to have informed you with this and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reply to this e-mail or contact us directly on +44 (0)844 369 0100 mentioning the reference number on the left of this e-mail or in the subject line (1-...).

Yours sincerely,

Which suggests one of two things (given that my computer can see and identify the printer) - either Canon have no intention of supporting early Selphy series printers on 10.8, or their tech support people are clueless.

Guys,

I need your help please.

The quality of the printed photos with my Selphy CP510 is quite low (lack of sharpness and color punch) and it is not due to the printer itself as, if I print directly from the camera connected to selphy, the printings are awesome.

I think that I have to play on gutenprint settings but it is unfriendly and I would like to get your help on, based on your expertience, on the best tweaks / settings to recover good printings.

Thank you for your help

Hi,

I own the Selphy ES1 plus have Mountain Lion and I cannot work it out!

I downloded the Gutenprint 5.2.9 and added it.

When I go Add Canon ES1 another window pops up asking me to choose a driver or printer model, which then takes me to Select printer software.

A long list appears with so many drivers.

Which one should I choose? The Canon Selphy ES1 isn't on that list.

The options are as follows:

Apollo (8 options), Apple Colour laserwriter (many options) Brother (many options)

There are abourt 10 selphy printers but no ES1

Which one works as I've tried a couple and they don't work.

Can you please advise.

Thanks so much but it is driving me up the wall ...

Likewise, downloaded the latest gutenprint drivers. This to hook up a Canon Selphy 510. The driver for this moved the paper a small way, and then quit. Tried the Selphy 710 driver (because the printers are basically the same) and this works well, The colors are a bit washed out in the printed image, so some adjustment to do, but happy to find a working driver for Mountain Lion.

Another success story for Gutenprint 5.2.9 with which I have resurrected my 5 year old Selphy CP400 on Mac OS X 10.8.

Some months after upgrading to Mountain Lion, it came as a nasty surprise to find the CP400 was no longer available and I couldn't re-add it to my printers list.

I downloaded and installed the Gutenprint 5.2.9 from the .dmg file. Then I could 'Add Printer' and select the Gutenberg driver by filtering on 'CP400'

Printing 6x4s from Aperture 3.4.x works perfectly and I have no concerns about print colour rendition.

Kudos to the team at gutenprint.sourceforge.net. I'm now very wary of Canon in the light of this sorry saga although I recognise they eventually sorted out the Mac support for their more recent Selphy printers.
