Anyone using a Canon Selphy printer with Lion?

I have a Canon Selphy CP800 and it's quite important to me. Canon have not updated the drivers on their website yet and Apple don't list the CP800 as a compatibile printer. Has anyone actually upgraded to Lion and tried the 10.6 drivers for this or any other Selphy?

I'm holding off the Lion upgrade until I know that all my stuff is supported (take note whingers and whiners).

Any insight appreciated.

For me the provided driver-installer does not work in Lion, I get an error message during installation

No idea if it would keep on working if you already have it installed prior to upgrading

cheers

following on from the posts indicating that Canon may be updating dirvers for the Selphy ES2 (amongst others) Ihave emailed them to enquire and below is their reply:

"

Thank you for your request and for contacting Canon.
We are sorry to read that you are not satisfied with the fact that there is no updated driver for your Canon product.
To explain this lack of availability we would like to provide you with some additional information regarding Canon's policy towards the provision of drivers for new operating systems.
At the time of launch of a new product, Canon generally provides drivers so that the product in question will operate on all existing and known future planned operating systems.
When the launch of a new operating system is announced, Canon reviews the existing product range to see which of these products can be considered for the provision of compatible drivers.
There are many different factors that may influence this decision. These can include (but are not limited to) such factors as the technical compatibility between the new operating system and the Canon product, the cost of driver development, the cost of supporting utility software product updates, the issue of certification of the developed driver by the operating system in question, the expected lifetime of the Canon product and costs associated with quality assurance.
Canon respects the right of its customers to decide to upgrade their operating systems and we attempt to make it clear at the time of purchase which products will function on which operating system.
Furthermore, Canon always advises its customers to check the compatibility of their associated Canon products prior to the upgrade of an operating system. To this purpose, our consumer helpdesk staff are always available to assist customers with such enquiries.
We hope that the information above offers enough explanations with regards to the unavailability of the updated driver that you need.
Once again, thank you for having provided feedback on this matter. We appreciate the time and effort it has taken you to do so.
Yours sincerely,
TOMAS JAN

So that's that then. No support for faithful customers...

I have tried Guttenprint which apparently has support for the ES2 (although it is not available in the driver list when setting hte printer up) but i cant seem to get this working.

I do have a work around though - not ideal but is working for me I am using VMware to set up a virtual windows 7 machine on my MBP (I need to use ACT! for my work which has no OSX support) and then use the windows drivers to run the printer. I am also using Fingerprint which is a neat app that lets you print direct to the printer from your idevice. Its not ideal but at least I can now use the printer...

It is encouraging to see how many users have been well-served by gutenprint 5.2.9, even though some critical items, such as the intelligent spooler, are not yet released (only in CVS code). That would explain why some models still do not work.

I have another request: if possible, can users please post the deviceid of the printer. I've recently discovered this should be added to the printer definitions, and one can only really get it from the printer hardware itself.

In this thread, several users have posted the deviceids (IEEE 1284 device ID), it looks something like this (here from page 13 of the thread, for the ES1):

1284 Device ID:MFG:Canon;CMD:Raster3;MDL:ES1;CLS:PRINTER;DES:Canon SELPHY ES1;VER:1.00;

Many thanks,

panjan,

I have no idea whether the next release will be called 5.2.10 or 5.3.0, I presume 5.2.10.

My wish is to get all the device IDs right first, that way automatic detection can take place.

So it may be a while still, depending on how quickly this information is forthcoming from users or other distributions (who may have patched gutenprint with the information as reported by their users).

Gernot

Hello,

Thank you very much for posting some of the IEEE1284 device IDs for the SELPHY series.

The gutenprint project, as many of you already know, at least as far as Canon products goes---my responsibility---mostly works on reverse engineering printjobs from Windows printer drivers, without access to the actual printers. So these hardware-reported IDs are difficult to obtain for me.

I'm in the process of looking at the patched gutenprint releases of various linux distributions, where in many cases more IEEE1284 device IDs are present, after having been reported by users. Also the Openprinting website may have some information. Still, for SELPHY devices there is a huge gap, since a) we only added SELPHY support very recently, and b) we did not think of testing for these device IDs before either. Many lost opportunities :-(

So, to summarize. We still lack USB IDs for the following printer models:

CP520

CP790

And we lack IEEE1284 device IDs for the following models:

ES20

ES3

ES30

ES40

CP-10

CP-100

CP-200

CP-300

CP-330

CP400

CP500

CP510

CP520

CP530

CP600

CP720

CP730

CP740

CP750

CP760

CP770

CP780

CP790

CP800

CP810

CP900

Any help in filling the gaps would be most appreciated.

Best regards from Tokyo,

Gernot Hassenpflug
