Drobo freezes 10.7 Lion Server

No, no. Some people distinguish the "M" in Mb to be byte, and mb to be bits. I was just hopeing to get some common language. So we all can get past the ambiguities.

Now that I think on it, I have also seen mB used to represent bytes as well. In addition to MiB used to imply base 2, vs. MB intended as base 10.

After an hour with Drobo Tech Support, Matt, yesterday, we both learned that Drobo posted new firmware for Drobo Gen 2 on 24OCT11. So far seems to address the freeze issue with Firewire 800 connectivity.

Check their site for Firmware version 1.4.1 [1.254.43359] and refer to the update notes available at the following:

I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I happened to see the update as well (on Monday night). No thanks to the tech support person who was supposedly working on my case.

At any rate, with 1.4.1 my Gen 2 now seems to work with FW800. I have tried a couple of 600GB transfers and all have gone smoothly.

For my Drobo S the latest posted firmware is still from back in May. And Drobo Dashboard says my "S" is up to date. It's currently connected via USB2 since it consistently hangs part-way through large backups when connected via FW800, ever since I upgraded to Lion.

It's not Apple's problem to deal with. Complain to Data Robotics, they messed up your working product with a bad update. We're here because Data Robotics deletes posts they don't like.

I'm finally running OS Server Lion 10.7.2 with my iSCSI Drobo Pro without a hitch, using the 2.4 Dashboard update. I assume that everybody else operating under this configuration should not have further problems. Nevertheless - the way Data Robotics handled this issue and continues to handle others - as we can see here - is sad, not professional and a wake-up call for me. They seem to be completely oblivious to the criticism expressed not only here and nothing on their site reflects a change in attitude. Will it improve?

I'm good as well - Running OSX Lion 10.7.2 and Drobo Dashboard (and drivers) v 2.0.4 with a DroboPro connected va iSCSI. Fingers and all other body parts crossed...

No firmware fix has been posted as of yet for the Drobo S. I assume any other Drobo S + Lion users out there still can't use FW800.

Looks like we really might have a solution for Firewire 800 on the Drobo 2 with Lion issues. Over a terabyte backed up with Time Machine using the 1.41 firmware and 2.03 dashboard (the latter may not matter, at all). It's about time. Drobo you could've handled this so much better!

Figured it out. You are talking about drobo 2gen.

But some of us with Drobo S are in the dark.

I just received an email from the Drobo folks saying to install 2.1.2 firmware in my Drobo S and switch back to Firewire. I'll try it tonight.

The 1.4.1 firmware did nothing for me, still freezes.

The release note says:

"Fixed disconnect problems when Drobo is connected via FireWire to newer Mac systems"

I guess my iMac doesn't fall under "newer Mac systems", perhaps.
