Drobo freezes 10.7 Lion Server

Drobo is attached to my Mac mini server via Firewire 800. Several other HDDs are connected via Firewire 800 Daisy Chain running without problems. Since the update to 10.7 Lion Server Drobo, which is the Time Machine destination for the server and three clients, freezes the server. When I want to shut down the server I have to disconnect Drobo, before that the server doesn't shut down. In this phase unmount of Drobo isn't possible. I have Drobo Dashboard 2.0.3 installed which shoud be Lion compatible. After reboot Drobo isn't even recoqnized, wether by OSX (not mounted) nor by Drobo Dashboard. Under Snow Leopard Server the same setup works very well. Anyone with a solution probsosal? For now I have several Macs without Time Machine backup, a really unpleasant situation.

I'm seeing the exact same behavior with a Drobo V2 attached to my Mac Pro via FireWire and I've also upgraded the Drobo Dashboard to 2.0.3.

I'm so fed up with this Drobo S (2nd Gen) ... it makes me wanna puke when I think about how much money and time messing around with it.

It keeps taking down my mini with 10.8.2 server. I'll try USB again, but good lord. Someone needs to get their act together and don't tell me I'm using it wrong!

I'm glad I never recommended one to any of my Mac clients!

The *ONLY* reliable way I can get my DroboPros or Drobo S to function is through USB. Its slow, but it works.

Yeah, I'll not be buying any more Drobo products which is a shame as the concept is so nice. I bought in big time with 2 DroboPros, a DroboS and five regular Drobos for our work. Could never get any of them to work on *any* Macintosh over any protocol other than USB.

Same issues with me on a DroboPro. Connected with iSCSI worked for 3 years with few problems. After latest OS updates, crash after freeze after crash. Drobo even sent me another unit to test. Same issues: iSCSI crashes entire system on copy attempts; FW800 connection gives "Could not copy file 'XXXXX.XXX' because some data could not be read or written." USB connection is stable.

Drobo Tech Support reps are courteous, but not all that helpful.Latest Tech Support call has them suggesting I do a complete RESET of the DroboPro after recovering my files via USB. If that doesn't work, I will most likely relegate the DroboPro to being a USB backup and switch to a Pegasus P2 RAID as my primary iTunes and Plex server.

This happens after each major OS X update and Drobo support should know this: Apple removed Java in OS X. Drobo Dashboard relies on the Apple version of Java (if you install Oracle's Java it won't help). What you need to do is download the last available Apple Java package (you find it in Apple's download site) and install it on OS X (and you need to do this everytime you upgrade to a new major version, e.g. from 10.8 to 10.9). Reboot your machine and your Drobo will start working again.
