Jul 31, 2011 12:47 AM in response to sergeviby Steve Porritt,Me, too. I found the following thread here in the ASC that had a solution. Alas, it didn't work for me, but it might for you.

Oct 11, 2011 2:28 AM in response to sergeviby andrew2011,I have also had the 'Error reading settings' problem in Profile Manager, despite trying everything in the discussions and clean reinstalls (which work for a little while only).
It seems that various different fixes work for some people but not others; and the underlying cause of the problem has not been resolved.
There are now numerous threads on this problem (there are yet others with similar problems):

I have posted this in each to try and pull things together a bit.
Does anyone know if Apple has acknowledged the issue and offered an official response?

Jun 25, 2012 9:14 AM in response to andrew2011by Kimbakat,This resets your Profile Manager back to it's DEFAULT CONFIGURATION. You will loose any setup configurations here...but it has worked for me in the past.

Oct 3, 2012 7:10 PM in response to paul.gossonby bradschhk,Hi Paul,
Did you ever get that "A server error has occurred" fixed?
Ever since Server.app was updated to 2.1.1, I have been unable to get into Profile Manager which seems to have a problem reading user groups or something as I am always redirected to /profilemanager/#/user_group/ when I get that server error has occurred message.
Regards,
