macbook air with lion not waking up from sleep

I purchase a third generation macbook air (july 2011) with preinstalled lion. It is slow to wake up from sleep (10 seconds). Sometimes when it falls asleep with shell open it wont wake back up with touch of keys (keyboard lights up but screen does not respond). If I close it then reopen, it wakes up. Problem seems intermittent.

Hey I had the same issue. Took it back to the Apple store, got a new one, and this one also has the same issue. 😟 I'm not sure what it has to do with but it doesn't happen everytime. Sometimes takes 10-20 seconds to wake up out of sleep, sometimes just gets stuck in "limbo" with only the mouse visible. Not sure what component is causing this but this seems to be a major issue.

Actually, the 2010's had this problem so bad at first that they couldn't be resarted at all. That's my understanding. Apple had to give people new computers and this is why they had refurbished ones after about a month. My 2010 13 has always had sleep problems. It has never quit not going to sleep and fully discharging the battery. Very disappointing since this was touted as such a wonderful feature.

Not completely sure if my issue is the exact same but it's close enough. Basically my new 11" appears to wake quickly, meaning I see the screen, but for at least 3 seconds I can't move the mouse or type or see any on screen movement. Verified the same issue with at least 3 in store 11" and 1 13". Also verified on one in my office and was told by someone else of the same issue.

Same here: brand-new Core i7 Air 11", and I always think it has died when I left the lid or hit a key to wake. It takes 5 to 6 seconds for the screen to come on (at which point, thankfully, the machine does seem to be working fine).

It feels like an eternity. MUCH slower to wake than my 5-year-old non-SSD Macs running Leopard and Snow Leopard!

This problem is true regardless of several variables:

* How long ago I put it to sleep (even just moments ago)

* Screen saver in use or not (Computer Name)

* Password lock or not

* Wake to my account vs. wake to login screen

Hey guys,

So like I told you I returned my macbook air. Well I have a MacBook Pro 17'' and I just ordered a Crucial 128GB SSD, and installed it yesterday night into my MBP. Turns out now I have the same "long wake" issue.

I guess it's not the MacBook Airs that have the problem, it's the way Lion handles SSDs. I installed Snow Leopard on it just to see how it fairs, and it doesn't have this issue, so now I'm fairly certain this is actually a software issue with Lion v.s. a hardware issue with the new MBA's.

Which means... that should probably hound Apple at getting their SSD handling right in Lion. At least I now know what the problem is.

Cheers,

Denis
