macbook air with lion not waking up from sleep

I purchase a third generation macbook air (july 2011) with preinstalled lion. It is slow to wake up from sleep (10 seconds). Sometimes when it falls asleep with shell open it wont wake back up with touch of keys (keyboard lights up but screen does not respond). If I close it then reopen, it wakes up. Problem seems intermittent.

Just came back from Genius bar with same issue as everyone has described. Could find no hardware issues and nothing in logs that indicate there is a problem. I told him that there are a lot of complaints about this in the community but he said it can't be widespread because not a lot of people have come in over the issue. Gave me a few things to try, like using a guest account and see if the problem persists, if not will exchange.

There is no sense in exchanging since it is apparent it is a software issue in Lion, not a hardware issue with the SSD. Read Denis' reply where he found it on a MacBook Pro with a third party SSD.

The thing for everyone to do is report the bug to Apple here.

I'm usually happy to look at forums and not contrubute, but on this occasion it seems we need as many documented cases of the "wake from sleep" issue.

I have a MBA i7 13". I've owned it for about 6 days and had this issue about 10 times. There are no Apple stores in my country so I can't have anyone check it out, but I can live with it for now. Here's hoping for a software fix soon.

i had the same issue. it is relatively slow to wake up afer opening it and i have called Apple Care several times and i even went to the Apple retail store. None of these resolves the problem . I did check the models in the store and i found out almost every mac with the Lion have this issue. That was such a relief for me . However, there is this review on youtube and his Air wakes up very quick http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SahkBDKfjQ...

I am so confused. Is this just a inconsistency between the software and hardware. If that is the case, how come there are some Air working just fine with it ....

I really hope this is not something that i have to fix!!!

I think I found the solution/problem. in energy saver settings remove check from the box "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" for the battery and the Power adapter. It is a definately OS X bug. It will affect your battery life, and but at list it works without the rebooting the whole thing.

Sorry--I should clarify: I never had a total failure to wake, just slow waking. That checkbox didn't help my version of the problem, but it seems to have helped yours!

Sounds like you're currently seeing the same slow wakes I do (even 3 seconds is longer than Macs used to take) but you have solved your bigger problem of not waking at all! Good to tip to share with others.

After my original post I realized that perhaps the worst case for my Air is when I am plugged into the charger and the Air falls asleep. In that case, pressing the keyboard illuminates the keys, but the screen does not come on at all. I am forced to close the shell wait a minute and then open it again.

I looked at the consol and grabbed a screen shot of the details. see attached:

There's a Mac OS X update with the following line:

Resolve an issue where MacBook Air may boot up when MagSafe Adapter is attached

Hopefully this fixes the issue.

Edit: Sorry I jumped the gun and didn't read it properly. Any way, there's an update that fixes a few things. Hopefully Apple have fixed the issue. Fingers crossed
