macbook air with lion not waking up from sleep

I purchase a third generation macbook air (july 2011) with preinstalled lion. It is slow to wake up from sleep (10 seconds). Sometimes when it falls asleep with shell open it wont wake back up with touch of keys (keyboard lights up but screen does not respond). If I close it then reopen, it wakes up. Problem seems intermittent.

Same problem here. Not fixed in 10.7.1 as I had hoped. This, along with the WiFi problems leaves me with a very poor impression of this computer. Been a lifelong Mac user and fan but this computer simply is not robust/reliable. You would think that the sleep/wake problems (present on the original white Macbook) would be well sorted by now. Ugh.

Just to add - I'm fairly sure I have had this problem both while and while not connected to the charger.

It's Lion, not the MacBook Air, as people are reporting this happening with 2010 MacBook Airs (and MacBook Pros with SSDs) once Lion is installed. It wasn't an issue with Snow Leopard. 10.7.1 made it marginally better for me, at least when it is connected to the charger and doesn't go into deep sleep, but there is more fixing to be done.

I am having the exact same issue. bought a new Air last week. From Deep Sleep it isn't coming back. Though the Apple logo on the back of the screen is lightened up, there's nothing I can do then to hold the power button for 5 sec and reboot. Should I bring it back, or is this an issue Apple is been working on?

I have had this same issue with 13" Air with Lion not waking from deep sleep since I got it a few weeks ago. After 2 genius bar visits no hardware issues arose. However while doing some recommended troubleshooting I found that I only have the problem when I leave Parallels desktop running. If I Quit Parallels, then close the lid and leave it for any length of time the air wakes up almost immediately. If I leave Parallels running, when waking the apple logo lights up and then the computer freezes. Therefore the geniuses (sp?) believe it is software related. If you don't use parallels, it could be some other application that is left open the interefers with the wake process.

Hey Jelmac,

I don't think it has anything to do with Parallels specifically. If you don't have any apps open it doesn't seem to be as much of a problem. What may be happening is that if there are apps open that save session data, it takes a really long time for Lion to restore that session upon wake. This is just a guess. But it definitely happens with applications other than parallels.

Cheers,

Denis

The issue you are having might be something with the firmware or logic board. I had a similar issue on my 2010 MacBook Air when I first got it last October. The backlighting would be on, but the screen was black and required a restart. Apple eventually issued a firmware update, but that was after they had exchanged mine for a new one. That second one did not have the issue.
