Battery drains faster since 4.3.5 iOS update

Did you try the suggestion given above to do a full reset?

I didn't have the same usage times as Nichoas Ryan had but my battery was draining very quickly.

Now I've done the reset its back to normal.

I had this exact same problem after updating to iOS 4.3.5 . My battery was draining like no tomorrow. I checked my usage times under settings... general... usage. I knew that there was something wrong because under "Time since last charge", both usage and standby had the same time listed even though I had my iPhone in standby most of the time.

What fixed the problem was resetting the phone by holding the sleep and home buttons simultaneously until the apple logo appears. I did this a couple of days ago and now my iPhone is back to its same battery efficient self. Also, I checked and the usage and standby times are now a lot different, as they should be.

Give this reset a try. Hope it helps!

There are probably messages queued that cannot be sent because it is in airplane mode, but it keeps trying. Enabling cellular data so the queue can be cleared may fix it.

I have an iPhone 4 that I've had for about 3 months now. Up until a couple of days ago I was running iOS 4.3.4 (I think). The battery has kept ok from 07.00 to 23.00 every day. I've never even thought about closing background apps, and I usually talk for a good 3-4 hours a day in my phone since I use it for work. And I usually have both bluetooth and WLAN on because I use them so often. This has never been an issue, until recently.

My calls were beginning to get cut off, often. And if they didn't get cut off, the counterpart wouldn't even be able to hear me because of bad reception. And looking at the reception indicator, it often bounces from "No service" to full reception. My operator (Telia) did a troubleshooting, after I provided them with exact times that calls had been cut off. They said it's not their fault, and that I should update my phone.

So I did. I updated it to 4.3.5 4 days ago. Since then I've seen a - major - decrease in battery time. I've even now turned off WLAN and bluetooth and closed all open apps, and since it's now weekend I haven't even talked 5 minutes with it, still the battery is down at about 20% after only 7 hours. And the worst part is the calls are still being cut off and reception still bounces up and down.

I'm not happy with this.

Same issue : Battery life has extremely reduced after iOS 4.3.5 update, down to approx. 4 hours.

The iPhone 4 heats, probably the sign that some process is running constantly...

Restarting the phone, resetting and reloading the phone haven't helped so far.

After reading this post, I've closed e-mail accounts (including contacts, mail, notes... all synchronisation services), notification services, GPS, 3G & Cellular services, WiFi and Bluetooth.

I now wait to see if battery keeps draining so fast... will keep you updated in a few hours.

I posted much earlier in this thread. My issue was resolved by removing my Exchange profile. It is yet to be re-added, but it might help those who are currently experiencing the problem.

The immediate sign of improvement was when there was a difference in the Usage/Standby times. If they are the same then something's running non-stop which is killing your battery.

My phone was drained of juice until it died on me last night. When I went to bed I started charging it and let it charge all night until 07.03 when I woke up. I haven't received a call, or so much as a text yet, still the battery is down to about 60% and the time is 09.51. 40% battery within 3 hours...

Sure Fishman, I could remove my Exchange profile but the whole function of the phone would go out the window. I might as well revert to my old Nokia 3210 if I'm only going to make phone calls. At least that had a battery time of two days. At least that was acceptable.

I could delete my profile for testing purposes, but I want to hear that from Apple in that case, no offense. Because looking at it, there's a major bug in this 4.3.5 update, there just can't be another reason. I haven't made any other changes to my phone other than the update and suddenly the battery runs out in no time. If there's nothing fishy going on there, I'm a crazy person.

Does anyone know whether Apple acknowledges to issue? Or is there even a public reaction?

Hm, I tried that but

a) the two usage times differ (as expected), so this is not the same symptom as others experience

b) resetting the phone by pressing the two keys did not help.

Still draining from 100% to 40% in 3hrs 😠

You simply need to remove and re-create it. You will lose your e-mails, Contacts and Calendar etc while it resynch's but we're talking minutes here.

Don't hold your breath waiting for some sort of realisation of, or resolution for the problem.

I know, since I'm the IT tech at our company. But it's beside my point. That Apple won't realise the problem though, is.

Alright I'll delete my Exchange sync and see what happens, if nothing else just for the sake of doing something. But being down to just under 20% battery before lunch must be something else than the mail sync...

Apple has saind NOTHING on this issue for the 4 years it has existed, so don't expect an answer now.

You've misunderstood the issue.

My battery used to keep ok for at least 12 hours no matter what I did, until I updated to 4.3.5, now it's down to about 4 hours with the same usage. That isn't something that has been around for 4 years. It came with the 4.3.5 update I did the other day.

And by the way, it doesn't look very good for the Exchange sync removal. I'm down to under 10% an hour later. I won't charge until the battery is completely drained, just to see how long it takes.

I have seen this before too, a while ago now. I wish Apple would fix it. All of a sudden one of the mail accounts causes the battery to drain like no ones business. Removing it and readding it sorts it.

If you go search the forum you will find messages identical to yours after every release:

"My battery used to last at least X hours, but since updating to version Y.Z it dies in just a few hours". For you it was 4.3.5, but others have seen this problem after any other update.

The issue is now solved. The phone behavior is back to normal : normal battery life, normal (quick) response behavior from the Phone and Contacts application. Thanks to those who adviced on what to do.
