FaceTime badge won't go away.

So recently, i missed a call on facetime and when I checked on my dock, there was a missed call badge. I opened facetime, went into missed calls, and cleared it. I then exited the app and the badge on the icon was still there, and yes, i did try to remove it from my dock and then open it through finder:applications:facetime. any suggestions?

Just thought I'd throw in my two cents. I had an issue with Facetime constantly showing a badge for missed calls, even though I cleared the recents list. This started happening after I upgraded from Yosemite to El Capitan. Some temporary fixes included killing the dock process in Finder, or by calling myself on Facetime. But every time I restarted, the badge would reappear. To me, that was a red flag that some file somewhere got messed up from the upgrade.

Out of frustration, I went through Library/Preferences, Library/Caches, Library/Containers, and Library/Application Support and deleted any folders that looked relevant to Facetime (or any folders that had not changed since the upgrade). Unfortunately I can't remember which folder was the offending one, because you have to restart in order for the changes to take effect. I was so relieved when I restarted and the badge was finally gone. Facetime has worked normally for me ever since, with no phantom calls missed. Hope this helps.

What everyone is seeing to this particular problem is the "Notification Badge app icon" for FaceTime, Not a missed call although it shows the same Red indicator as well.

All you need to do is go to system preferences->Notifications-> and scroll down to FaceTime. Look to the right of that and if your like me you uncheck the Badge App icon box and you should see that annoying red notification disappear.

Now I don't know if its a bug or a conflict with the new OS X El Capitan or other OS versions but this will fix that problem.

Let me know if this works for everyone.

Interesting that this thread started 4 years ago and people, me included, are STILL having this issue.

iMac, running latest El Capitan, FaceTime red badge notification keeps coming back.

Deleted all calls, video and audio on iMac and on iPhone.

Tried running Terminal and killing dock.

Tried Activity Monitor and killing dock. Badge disappears but returns after a shutdown and restart.

Gone through Preferences in FaceTime and see nothing amiss.

I am lost for a solution. Any help appreciated.

As a follow up to solving this issue. I spent an hour on chat with an Apple support person who walked me thru many checks of settings. In the end, it was a safe mode restart that got rid of the false notification badge.

Hold the Shift Key down while powering up. When the Apple Logo appears with the progress bar at startup, release the shift key. This will start your Mac in Safe Mode. Only Apple programs will start. This apparently "resets" flags, markers and settings of some programs. In any event, the flag is now gone and rebooting in normal mode it was still gone. FaceTime works as intended now.

FaceTime badge won't go away.
