win7 x64 can't install iTunes 10.5
Windows 7
Check your windows update, all files up to date? Service pack 1 installed? if not reinstall windows(clean install), then the service pack, then your mobo drivers, periphel drivers, then itunes 10.5.
THIS WORKED FOR ME AFTER NOTHING ELSE DID, HAVING THE SAME ISSUE
Well for starters I have not seen anything in the news or anything else, except here.
This particular problem: An error occured during the installation of assembly'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.6195",publicKeyToke n="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86". Please refer to help and support for information. HRESULT: 0x800736FD." Is a windows issue, and not an Apple issue. Windows needs to be updated and if you are recieveing similar errors while updating windows, then the only thing that is a work arouind solution is to do a clean install of windows. The solution to this has been found a few days ago, I just performed the same function, and have the updated software. This is basic stuff, in this day and age. If you can't figure out to search for solutions or update an operating system, you have no bussiness owning a smart phone. I have no idea what the error code means, or what librarys or programs it depends on. This is typically Microsoft crap, been getting viruses, spyware, mismanged registry settings every since windows 95. Only solution is to back up your files and do a complete install, including fdisk and format of your hard drive, every few months or so, depending on your usage, and how you want your computer to perform. I have had this platform on for over a year now. installed and uninstalled countless programs, etc. and it has gotten slow, crashes, and not being able to run or install programs.
I had the same problem “unable to install ITunes 10.5 on my Windows 7 64
I downloaded Iobit Uninstaller from download.com
Ran it and uninstalled the Apple software updater.. it will fail but allows you to clear the registry entries. Do a restart and then run the ITunes 10.5 ..
It worked for me.

I can't work out whether that contribution to the debate is based on stupidity or ignorance.
Apart from anything else if it was purely a Windows issue don't you think Apple would be shouting the fact?
Well, obvisously it works on a clean install machine with all updates, why would they care? By a Mac, get it?
Well, obvisously it works on a clean install machine with all updates, what is it you don't understand? Several solutions work for some people while others like myself started from scratch. Why does this sound so stupid?
Hi please post the instructions they gave you to do it manually, cause I'm having an error too when I try to use Windows Update, (8000ffff) I did the Fix It stuff and didn't work, then I downloaded the updates and tried to run them and I don't get the Updates... I'm running Windows Vista 32 bits, I can't have Itunes even an older version is impossible to get I always get an error...
For the itunes 10.5 version I get please reinstall Itunes windows error 5, for older versions itunes helper is required...
Please help :(
I rest my case :-)
Best Solution
no need for uninstall
download itunessetup.exe
unzip it with 7zip
Install AppleApplicationSupport.msi
And all works fine.
The content in Apple\Apple Application Support was old,
the old Date is in germany 24.6.2011 the right Date is 27.09.2011
So I had a problem trying to install 10.5 on Win 7x64 as well as many have as I see. I was already on 10.5 and was trying to install an app that had an error and a solution was to uninstall itunes and everything from Apple in a certain order then reinstall. I followed the instructions which are in all the 10.5 cant install threads, then when I went to install I had the iTunes cant install message box, the one that has no error number just says "installer encountered error before itunes could configured".
I spent HOURS trying to figure out wth the problem was, I did all the different methods posted on these boards that I could find. I already had uninstalled all the Apple Products, I downloaded CCleaner to get rid of the Registry stuff, I deleted the Temp files, did it all to no avail. Then I stumbled upon the solution randomly reading on some other site.
Here it is, if you are having the problem after all the other methods try this:
Goto Start- Control Panel
Add or Remove User Accounts
Create another generic User Account
Download iTunes and Install it there
Switch back to your Regular User Account
Everything should be back on your Desktop
Click iTunes Shortcut
iTunes should load up perfectly including all your Music Playlists Apps ect
I havent deleted the Generic User Account yet but I have a feeling you can get rid of it once iTunes is downloaded. Im just glad I got it back up, I have an iPhone and well the thing can go useless if I cant hook it up to iTunes.
Hope this helps, Good Luck all and God Bless 8)
No luck with anything here! I have tried EVERYTHING that has been posted in various forums and nothing works. I guess the only thing left to do is to do a clean install on my machine (clean Windows install that is)! Un-friggin-believable! I have never had any other kind of software screw up my system as bad as iTunes!
Apple, expect a bill from my company on time spent reinstalling my computer because of your screwed up update of iTunes!
I have a different issue. I get the error, "The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured. Errors occurred during installation. Your system has not been modified."
This is fresh install of Win 7 Ultimate 64 on a newly built computer. So there are no apple software apps installed at this time. I have iTunes and Quicktime running 2 other computers I have that also run W7 Ultimate 64. Albeit the 10.4 version.
I have tried using the Microsoft uninstaller utility, but of course this is usless if no apple apps have been installed yet. Moot point. I have also, copied the iTunes64.msi file from the temp file that the apple installer creates. And then run the .msi file directly. Still have the same exact error message.
The iTunes64Setup1328.log files that the apple installer creates list the following errors:
Executing: "C:\Windows\system32\msiexec.exe" /i "C:\Users\banger\AppData\Local\Temp\IXP519.TMP\iTunes64.msi"
Returning: 1603
So, I tried to install Quicktime by itself to see it iTunes would install after that. But I get a different error here:
Once again I copied the QuickTime.msi from the temp folder that the apple installer creates, and tried to run it directly. But get the same error I got when I tried to run the iTunes 64 installer:
And here is what the Quicktime "QTInstallCode.log file reveals.

It looks like you can't install any of the Apple apps on a clean install of W7 Ult 64, because it keeps looking for a previous installed apple app.
I will try to find some older iTunes versions to see if they will install, and then try to upgrade on version at a time.
I wish the Apple developers would put a little more effort into coding for windows. I know they can make a version of iTunes that would install as easily as any other of the tens of thousands of apps out there for
windows. But they probably have upper management bozo's who think that this might make people quit
the windows plateform all together and just buy apple hardware and apps so they won't have these issues.
Time for me to rethink the iPad and iPhone for other more "open" platform solutions.
Ditto Relapse 666-
I have tried all the fixes on page 10; setup a new user account,
tried unzip and install Application support, it was already installed to used the repair option.
NoJoy same errors.
Some reservation about trying Iobit Uninstaller from download.com to clean registry in case I lose my itunes function.
glad to hear it works for you.
i finally caved in and reinstalled win7 x64 and all my programs and settings.
i started at 7.30am est yesterday and finally finished it 10 minutes ago.
the loading of win7 itself was reasonably fast ... it was the upgrade to sp1 and the 150+ updates which took hours. and all the programs, changing the file locations, adjusting the settings.
that's 27 hours of my life totally lost.
and by the way, this ios5 .... nothing special. i had to rebuild all the app pages again (because i put them into clusters), and for some reason it duplicated all my songs (which meant i had to manually delete the 800+ duplicates) and waste more time keying in the apple id and fiddling around with the settings.
and siri ... what a waste of time. i can't tell the difference.
so frustrated by this process. that's a week of my life wasted on apple, itunes, ios and installs/reinstalls/restores/repairs.
