Ok, The golden egg (page 19) worked for me. I was getting the AMDS64 error and could install iTunes 10.5.1 only if I uninstalled everything apple. Even when I did this it came up with the same error and would roll back, start again and install but be missing critical programs and drivers. I couldn't connect my iPhone to iTunes at this point.

This is the error I originally had, and its the same one that would pop up before it rolled back and reinstalled with missing components.

I then used the "Golden egg" site and very carefully went through the instructions (He said that iTunes 10 would be under program files but mine was under program files(x86) so don't let this confuse you, just find yours and follow the steps). I don't want to get your hopes up but if you have this same problem this should work for you. Even if your problem's different try this and see if it works. Seriously, I'm very glad I finally got this thing to work. I was afraid there was going to be a broken window and a computer in a snow drift outside, lol.

I followed the "golden egg" solution to the letter. ITunes 10.5.1.42 is now installed and communicating with the iTunes store. However, it STILL cannot see my iPhone or iPad, though my computer recognizes both, and Windows says the installed drivers are working correctly. In other words, I'm back to where I started, with my devices only working on an old XP laptop but inaccessible to my main computer.

Based on your description, it is likely that the correct version of Mobile Device Support is not installed. For some as yet unknown reason, this part of the iTunes upgrade to 10.5.x refuses to install. In order to get iTunes to recognize your devices, you need to manually install the correct version of Mobile Device Support. For iTunes 10.5 it is 4.0.0.96 and for iTunes 10.5.1 it is 4.0.0.97. Follow these instructions:

1. Find a friend who has successfully installed iTunes 10.5.1 and copy the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\ from his or her PC over to yours.

2. Use regedit to find the registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Apple Inc.\Apple Mobile Device Support] and change "Version"="4.0.0.96" to "Version"="4.0.0.97"

3. Reboot, start iTunes and check that your Apple devices are recognized.

Be aware that this is a work-around, not a real solution and that future releases of iTunes will probably cause the same problem.

I have the same issue trying to install iTunes 10.5 and had to reinstall 10.4 to have access to iTunes. I have spent days trying the fixes but still get:

An error ocurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,type="win32", version="8.0.50727".4053", publicKey Token="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b" ,processorArchitecture="amd64"' .Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8007054F

I had a few thoughts to share. First, if this was a problem on a Mac, Apple would be all over this like white on rice to get it fixed. But since it's a PC issue, they don't seem to care. Second, I recently purchased a new smartphone and am glad I went for a Droid over an iPhone. So I suppose if I want the latest version of iTunes I need to buy a Mac. In closing, I AM SO GLAD THAT APPLE CARES FOR THE CONSUMER SO MUCH AS TO ACCURATELY AND ADEPTLY HANDLE THIS ISSUE, oh, wait, they haven't. Sorry for the top of my voice but maybe if apple were to read these......Anyway, will look out for the next install of, "Let's irrate the PC users", lol.

I've done all the tweaks listed here, including changing the Mobile Device Support version in the registry. Everything works ... except iTunes (and only iTunes) cannot or will not see the devices. Thank goodness I still have an XP laptop which installed iTunes without so much drama.

As for this being a PC issue, that's true to some extent, but Google turns up a lot of Mac users who are having problems of their own. This just looks like a sloppy roll-out by Apple. If Microsoft had done this, the mockery online would be deafening.

When installing iTunes, I get the folloing error message. I t appears to be some type of Windows access error. The system is Windows 7 Ultimate x64

The Error :

Product: Apple Application Support -- Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'policy.8.0.Microsoft.VC80.CRT,type="win32-policy",version="8.0.50727.6195",pub licKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070005. assembly interface: IAssemblyCache, function: CreateAssemblyCacheItem, component: {63E949F6-03BC-5C40-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}

The account used for install is in admin group, inaddition, the iTunes installer was also run as Administrator.

Other steps I performed to try and solve the issue:

- Uninstalled all iTunes Programs, Then tried to reinstall programs - No Go

- Tried to install C++ 2005 Redistributable - Similar error as iTunes install

- Applied all Windows Important Updates

- Upgraded Windows 7 Ultimate x64 to SP1

- Ran Windows Windows System File Checker (SFC) - Did not find errors

- Ran System Update Rediness Tool - No issues found

- Uninstall all Apple software again, and performed totally manual Itunes install by extracting the MSIs out of itunes x64 setup package, and installing each separately. Failed with the same error above when installing "Apple Application Support" msi

I know of at least 300+ people having the same issues, there must be a way to track down the access issues or reset them. It does not seem reasonable to reinstall windows on a system that runs well except for the itunes install issue?

Additional info - Similar issue as ITunes:

Product: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable -- Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.ATL,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.4053",publicKeyToken="1fc8b 3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070005. assembly interface: IAssemblyCache, function: CreateAssemblyCacheItem, component: {97F81AF1-0E47-DC99-A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E}

Sadly, I gave up and threw in the towell, I reinstalled iTunes 10.5.1 which installed first time without a hitch after reformatting my system - I run Windows 7 (x64).

The longest part when reinstalling was patching Windows 7 with the latest updates. I am still disappointed that no fix or a timescale has been provided, not everybody has the time or should have to reinstal their entire PC for one program to work!

I REFUSE to reinstall WIN7 just to get iTunes to work. That is one bridge toooooooooooooo far. To reinstall everything from the past year would be counterproductive and a waste of time for iTunes, ok for WIN7 error that reinstall is the only solution. I went back to 10.4 so it works now. I wish Apple saw these forums and took action. Maybe let us know about it would be nice.
