Running windows 7, first I upgraded to Itunes 10.5 and it would not open. Uninstalled everything Apple and reinstalled without errors. When I try to open using the icon (or any other method) nothing happens although all the files appear to be there. Tried using administrator with the same outcome. No errors and no itunes, nothing but a short flash of the busy pointer. Not worth the time to try to fix......."CD's rule"

You're one step behind me. I just did the same today, going through some suggestions after they'd had my logs for a week or so. In the end, the results were exactly the same; Bonjour and AppleMobileDeviceSupport did not install because of two registry keys that won't allow access, despite administrator status. The final option beyond what we did today is to reinstall Windows, something I don't intend to do. I've got some very complex programs on my desktop, like CAD/CAM, and iTunes is the only software with issues. At this point I'll just rely on my XP netbook and hope future updates actually work on the newer platform.

I also cannot update my iTunes and I am running Vista Home Premium. I did all the uninstall stuff and deleted everything Apple and Quicktime from my laptop, and still it will not install. I installed an earlier version (8 something) and that installed first time, unfortunately because my library was created using a newer version of iTunes it won't open. So now I have no iTunes what-so-ever on my laptop. Very frustrated to say the least!

You can fix this issue by doing a repair install of your windows. I have windows 7 ultimate x64. It will not delete any of your programs, files or settings. After you enter windows desktop, insert your windows 7 cd and choose upgrade option. Since you aren't really upgrading it will just replace the drivers, registry files and other basic windows 7 files. Took me 45 minutes. Afterwards, do your windows updates. Then proceed to install the latest itunes. It should install as it installed for me.

At this point if your itunes isn't recognizing your iphone (4S for me), then go to your control panel/uninstall. Right click the Apple's mobile program and repair that. Then restart. You should be able to sync your iphone through itunes.

I hope this helps!

I had an iphone 3s before I had my current iphone 4. I always had trouble updating itunes64 on my windows 7 machine. I have spent many days updating itunes over the years. I had to find workarounds to trick the software into loading. Apple has not fixed this problem yet, it is not likely to fix it in the future. This problem has been around for years. Good software does not work like this.

Should I remove only the Apple Software Update Listed or all Apple apps using the Microsoft "Fix It" tool?

I'm asking that because last time I used Fix It to upgrade to iTunes 10.4 by removing Apple apps, I had to reinstall Windows to get everything working again. Even though I still can't upgrade to iTunes 10.5.

I used PCMover to port from XP (32-bit) over to my new Windows 7 system. Evidently, it also loaded 32-bit uninstall .msi files. Therefore, I can't delete Bonjour (afe2cd8.msi) or Apple Mobile Device Support (763629.msi). Any advice on how to manually nuke these and re-install would be appreciated. As it is, I can't install iTunes to sync with my iPhone. This is becoming critical for me.

MS has finally created a .MSI install and unstall utility that actually works!

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

This corrects the registry and allows unistalls. I then installed and I was getting an iTunes that worked but immediately shut off.

Now, I deleted everything Apple, Bonjour, and iTunes. I then downloaded the iTunes installer to my desktop and right-clicked to install as Administrator.

It works!

Hi, Adam.

I opened the URL you posted and the MS utility you mentioned seems to be applicable only to MS Office 2010 tools. Did you unistall the Apple apps from Control Panel or using this MS utility? What aboutthe order you uninstalled each Apple app? Did you followed the order listed on the tech note availabe in this forum?

Sorry for the questions, but I'm at work right now and cannot run the utility to test it with Apple apps.

I really appreciate your attention. Thanks.
