Just an FYI ... This is not a Apple problem.

I have my itunes installed on a server 2008 r2 box and work as a system administrator. This is due to a corruption in Visual C studio. Try installing any of the VC redistributals and you are likely to see the same error.

Any application that relies on Visual C will not install on your system. Microsoft is the one at fault here and they offer no working solutions for my Server OS other than a reinstall. I've spent 2 days googling this and will now have to reinstall all sorts of apps and will probably lose my play counts and everything else in Itunes.

Should have bought a mac...

Your post got me thinking. If this is a compatibility issue can the setup file be run by using the compatibility with a previous version of Windows as some programs need to be run? I was able to install iTunes 10.5 on my desktop running XP with no problems. It is a 32 bit system as opposed to my laptop that is running Windows 7 and is a 64 bit system. So if the file will run as if installing on a previous version would it work. Haven't tried it yet but may later.

I'm back to this post again. I am truly feeling the frustration of those who cannot install this shoddy piece of software.

Eventually, I am sorry to say, because of Apple's support (or lack thereof), many of you will have to do as I did, i.e., get out the Windows software (...probably Windows 7 64 bit) and re-install. Just be careful to plan it out.

I did this when it was obvious tha this was my only choice. I am finally up and running now.

Good luck. Hang in there, fellow sufferers.

I'm having the same issue, get the whole 1935 error message on my windows 7 32 bit. If anyone needs a quick fix for now then use this link:

It is the itunes 10.3.1 which after still installs flawlessly! I'm going to stick with this version and just use my friend's laptop to update my ipad 2 to iOS5 until apple come up with a fix! If they don't, I'll be wanting my money back..

Althogh I believe that this problem is not Apple's fault, but Microsoft is responsible for this, it causes significant effort to fix: by completely re-installing my Win7 32bit Home Premium on my notebook...

I was able to upgrade to iOS5 on the notebook of my son, but do not have any media on my iPhone now.

Some background:

My Win7 failed to perform "Windows Updates" back in April 2011, but I ignored this, after all my attempts to fix this failed.

But apparently latest now, when itunes 10.5 deinstalled my last working 10.4 I had to get my PC re-build.... :-((((

It may be a Microsoft issue, however other application software seems to be able to install and run on Windows without any problem. Therefore, does not the application software developer have some responsibility to develop the software to run on the platform they advertise it will run on. For instance if the application software needs Visual C ++ to run and the system does not utilize it then should not the installation package include it. Also, since everyone on this post is having problems installing iTunes 10.5 and 10.4 seems to run fine, then Apple techs should at least address why and acknowledge they are looking into the situation. So far there has been nothing on the issue. If you Google for a resolution this is where you keep being referred. I have found some articles from about a year ago that I may try. One is on ZDNet "The unofficial guide to instaling iTunes without bloatware" that give guidance on installing iTunes from command line. There was another article but I will try it's suggestions first and if successful post her. If not the search continues.

beaniespike and dschloss...

beaniespike is absolutely correct. Microsoft creates the OS. It is the vendors' (e.g., Apple) responsibility to write to the OS and not the other way around. As I mentioned in my other posts, I really do not feel that Apple tested this out as they should have, as indicated by the myriad problems that have been posted now for DAYS! I think they feel if it works on a MAC then that is all they need to worry about. A wee bit snobby, if you ask me.
