hey so i dont know if anyone else has posted a fix but i completely uninstalled anything that has to do with Apple of my PC including leftover data files (program folders, data folders from Common Files, Local, LocalLow, Roaming, and Program Data) and reinstalled iTunesx64.exe and now everything works perfectly. no errors or anything.. just follow instructions on this link step by step and in order and it should work for you. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.. hope this helps anyone.

I get the Installation package cannot be opened and verify if this is a Windows installer package error. I have read all of the posts and I can't repair or unistall anything Apple on my PC because it is new. I don't have anything Apple on my PC. I have Windows 7 Home 64bit operating system. I have tried installing almost every version of iTunes there is and none of them work. I have tried installing only QuickTime so that I could get the Apple Software installer but that does not work either. How do you get the installer without being able to download iTunes in the first place? It seems as though the repair suggestion is working okay for some. I only wish I had something to repair.

so for all those who claim that it is a windows and not apple's fault, i would like to know how then can a new pc without any previous apple installation NOT install 10.5?

i am sicked by this: i was just about to do a fresh install of win7 x64 until i read this post and decided against it.

no point wasting 10-20hrs of my life reconfiguring my pc when there is a real possibility that it may not work.

question to all the folks here: i have 10.5 installed on my notebook (win 7 32-bit). how do i get the notebook to have the same stuff on itunes as the desktop? do i copy the itunes folder from deskop over? because when i am syncing it, instead of reading what's on the phone and syncing it to the notebook, it does the other way around, which really bugs me. should i be clicking something?

thanks

One week on and problem still continues, I am sick and tired of trying everything possible but still can't install itune 10.5 on my Windows 7 64 bit.

No official word from apple. Not sure if they are even bothered to read what we all are talking about. We are letf to sort it on our own, by trial and error method.

Steve is gone and here they started to take the quality down in less then a week. My question to all is "Would have Steve allowed to let this go down?"

I hope they don't screw it up in few years what Steve build.

Having the same issue here. Sony Vaio with Windows 7 64-bit. I have been trying for days to get Itunes 10.5 on my computer...at the end of the install (that takes forever) it gives me an error message. With all of the posts around the web about this you would think Apple would address it. This is an Apple issue!

Ive tried repairing the apple updater and then re-installing.......NOTHING. Same issue!

One week later I have tried everything suggested here short of reinstalling Windows. Nothing has worked and I can't install ANY version of Itunes. I can't understand why some Windows users have had no dificulties, some have success after repeated troubleshooting attempts, and still some of us are having no success at all! Extremely frustrating!
