How do I enable multitasking gestures in iOS 5.0 on iPad 1?

"iOS 5 includes a few new moves and shortcuts to help you get around even quicker on your iPad: Using four or five fingers, swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar, pinch to return to the Home screen, and swipe left or right to switch between apps."

How do I enable these gestures? I have upgraded to iOS 5 on my iPad 1 and do not see this setting in the general tab of settings.

iPad

This is unbelievable! I installed the xcode update on my ipad one months ago! I have been using it flawlessly since then and have become completely accustomed to it. It worked better than gestures on lion! I see no reason why Apple would have decided to remove it other than to make people buy new upgrades. This is unacceptable and doesnt seem like apple behaviour. I can't use my ipad now without the gestures it just seems clunky and horrible so I really hope this will be resolved in an update. Furthermore, I paid for the gestures update, if I remember correctly it was €4.99. To have my purchase wiped away with no warning is also unacceptable. I am a loyal apple. I don't want this to change.

I wonder, do they get enabled if you set the iPad up to be a development machine? (as per previous iOS version?)

Sadly, no. 😟

I've chimed in w/Apple developer support. They were very understanding and took my feedback. Hopefully enough squeaky wheels get the grease and it will be added back. Weigh in, folks, politely please. 😉

I got on the phone this morning to tell my cousins wife (iPad 1 owner) about iOS 5 and its cool features. She did the backup and upgrades and called me several hours later....The feature I (iPad 2 owner) enjoyed especially and wanted to share with her was the new multitasking swiping gestures. I told her to pinch the app to nothing and it will disappear. She says to me "nothing is happing". ok... "open up a couple of apps" I instructed. Nothing. Then I told her to "swipe everything to the left and see how it reveals the next open app" Nada.... Then I went to the Apple site and it clearly states that it is compatible with iPad 1. So this could have been easy told to the potential upgraders in a chart form from iPhone 3gs all the way to iPad 2, checking each app or new feature available or unchecked for not available as per device name. So I am imagining that they are working on it.... lets hope. I wouldn't call it a brick just yet. Some post that there is no reason to leave gestures out, but perhaps there is some sort of bug there without the DC A5, just a thought. But please be TRANSPARENT.

It doesn't look like a bug or oversight to me. If you go to http://www.apple.com/ios/features.html it says:

"iOS 5 includes a few new moves and shortcuts to help you get around even quicker on your iPad 2: Using four or five fingers, swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar, pinch to return to the Home screen, and swipe left or right to switch between apps."

I think it's just a sad attempt to give the iPad 2 more features so you have more reasons to get one. This is pathetic mistreatment of customers that just bought a "cutting edge" device less than a year ago and now are made to feel like toss aways because we didn't drop another $500+ on the latest apple device. Apple is losing a fan in me and their credibility will be really lost if they don't listen to their customer base on this.

I have screen captures of the same from last night and they do not say iPad 2, it just states iPad. I've already recieved 22 people's contact info to give to a lawyer that handles issues like this. I had posted on 2 different topics on the same issue, and like I said in my posts, I knew that Apple would delete them as they want to control all bad press about this issue. Now it's just cover it up, and cover thier butts.
