I got the same error earlier today and found this solution on the web... it worked for me and now I have IOS5 on my ipad 2 🙂... Hope it helps...

1. Download the IOS 5 Firmware directly from Apple by clicking on the links below, save the file to your desktop:

iOS 5 IPSW Firmware Update Files

• iPad
• iPad 2 WiFi
• iPad 2,2
• iPad 2,3

2. After downloading the desired firmware, you can shift-click (PC) or option-click (Mac) the "Update" button in iTunes. A file dialog will open and let you choose the downloaded ipsw-file from your desktop.

3. Proceed with the upgrade as usual.

4. If you get Error -3002 at this point, try to do a Restore, rather than an Upgrade - remember to shift-click (or option-click on a Mac).

I had the same problem. The iPad failed to restore four times. I had it hooked up to a USB hub and my Symantec Endpoint Protection software was running. I disabled the anti-virus software and plugged the iPad into a USB 2.0 port on my laptop and I was able to complete the update. Thanks, teach811 for the advice. Looks like you were spot on.

Wow, thanks for this post. I had the same problem, iOS5 would not install and it kept giving me the 1611 error. But I've always used USB ports on my monitor to sync and update my iOS devices. After reading the solution here, I plugged it into a USB port directly on my computer and it updated.

Same thing with me. I originally tried it via a USB hub. After a few times of 1611 and Googling, I plugged into the USB port on the front of the PC. It is happily doing a sync now. *Phew*

I am having a similar issue, updated my i-pad 2 64g to ios5 and now I can't restore my data because of an error so I lost all my gaming profiles and work files... Who ever put up the update at apple is gonna be in the **** cause if I have lost all this stuff which I have spent hours doing and lots of money (and I am sure many of you are in the same spot) then I am gonna really be ****** and start complaining to the apple staff along with the hundreds of other angry users...

I upgraded my iTunes to the latest version and tried updating my iPad2-3G 64gb to IOS5. I get the message that "it can't be restored.....". I really have no idea what to do now. Is it possible to bring my iPad to the previous state?

Try removing your passcode from you IOS device. It worked for me!

I haven't read every single post here, so I apologise if this has already been mentioned, but after getting the 'cannot restore' message a couple of times, I resynced the iPad and it worked after that.

i finally got it to do the update but lost a 1/4 of my data information in my games... Had to redo all my folders again manually... I have used macs for 25 years at home and work plus fluent on PC's as well and never have I seen this bad of a update....

ya exactly, this happens alot with apple, after they release a software, in a few days or weeks, apple is probably gonna release a new version fixing the bugs in IOS 5

when i came to restore the device apple told me to disable the antivirus and this did fix the problem
