iOS 5 Upgrade Bricked My iPhone 4 (Stuck in Recovery Mode)

I, like many others, kept getting "An internal error occurred" when trying to upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. Foolishly, I continued to hit the Update button and try again. It eventually led to my iPhone being in recovery mode. I am now unable to restore the phone due to the ongoing issues with Apple's servers and unable to use the phone because the failed upgrade process placed the phone in recovery mode.

Joshua,

The same is happening to many of us. I did my Iphone this morning with nary a problem, but have been trying to do the Ipad2 this evening and have had 5 error messages, but the solution is, instead of doing anything with cables, re-booting., etc, just keep trying. My Ipad2 is now almost completely updated, and it only took me 7 tries. It is an Apple server problem in that they have too many people upgrading at the same time.

I'll add my name to the chorus, this is ridiculous. I've never had an update brick my phone before, so this is not an auspicious start to iOS5.

As with others, I received the "internal error" message, and tried again. After I tried to restore, it partially progresses through the process, but seems to blow up after "Restoring iPhone Firmware" and dumps me out with error 3004.

This is most un-Apple like. Presumably there is a fix of some kind in the works, but let's hope it arrives within the next few minutes.

I have exactly the same problem - after trying and trying again against error 3004 for more than two hours I suddenly got an "internal error" and now my iPhone 4 is stuck in recovery mode and is not recognized by my Mac anymore.

Of those of you who are saying try and try again and you finally succeeded, how did you get your phone out of the recovery mode?

I have tried pressing home and on at the same time for a longer period, home only, on only but nothing has yet changed anything.
