iOS 5 Upgrade Bricked My iPhone 4 (Stuck in Recovery Mode)

I, like many others, kept getting "An internal error occurred" when trying to upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. Foolishly, I continued to hit the Update button and try again. It eventually led to my iPhone being in recovery mode. I am now unable to restore the phone due to the ongoing issues with Apple's servers and unable to use the phone because the failed upgrade process placed the phone in recovery mode.

I am here in India --- I am on "Restoring iPhone firmware" and the Apple icon is showing on the screen & the bar shows it's done to about 60 percent for over an hour now. Hope things go well ... but ****! I just realized I should have Win7 or Vista .... I have XP Professional .... now what? Should have read the conditions ..... now do I have to do the whole thing again ..... over 4 hrs already. Have to find a laptop with Win7 too,

um, this is horrible. my phone stopped in the middle of the update, as soon as it was restoring the firmware.. i got an error message, i called apple about it, they said wait 20 minutes.. that was like at 430, then i tried again 2 hours later.. STILL did the same thing, so i tried calling them again.. THIS TIME they tell me basically tough **** because the servers are still down.. so my phone is now stuck in recovery mode, WONT respond to itunes, i take it off itunes, turn it off, turn it back on and it keeps restarting itself continuously.. thank you Apple for not only leaving me without a phone, but for screwing around with it as well.

Yes, I did this too and now I'm back to the "plug into iTunes" screen and iTunes sees my phone again

A guy already posted this but it worked, phone has been in recovery mode for HOURS!!

OK ensure iphone is unplugged from computer. Hold down home button and off button until it goes dark, then plug back in holding the holding the home button and usb screen should appear.

Have just tried to restore and it is still saying error 3014, one problem solved another left wide open!! Ridic!!

I did a hard reset on my phone and restarted my computer and it went right thru. The only issue I see now it I tried to sync some of my apps and I cannot reinstall any of apps? I did a backup/Sync with my phone prior to doing this now all of my apps are gone, which it stated they would be, but I was under the impression that we could re-install them after the iOS 5 Upgrade?

I have successfully updated my iPhone to IOS 5.

  1. Be sure you have iTunes 10.5 installed
  2. Launch iTunes 10.5 and then…
    • Mac users: hold down the OPTION key then click on “Restore”, locate the aforementioned IPSW file
    • Windows users: hold down the SHIFT key and then click on “Restore”, point iTunes to the downloaded IPSW file.

Firmware files have an .ipsw extension and can be found at the following locations:

On Windows XP :
Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

On Windows Vista/Windows 7:
Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

On Mac:
~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates

I thought I have broken my iPhone but now I'm glad it worked.

Good Luck!

I wasnt going to update but since my partner had sucessfully i thought hey why not...

I updated itunes 1st off to latest version. Rebooted etc..

Plugged in my device (iphone 4 ) and transfered purchases and did a backup of my phone.

I downloaded the ios5, and then once downloaded I installed on phone... took a while but the screen came up and the language settings etc... followed instruction up until the back up via itunes option came up. Itunes didint recognise my phone, and nothing happened.

I have been on a recovery loop now for near on 3 hours!!! i have tried all things.. i have even tried on a different compter. (MAC)

I have googled, search forums and tries all the options available...

Why wont my usb connecttion link it with my itunes.... how can that be a server issue???

Please someone help me, im very concerned.
