iOS 5 Wireless iTunes sync..Not really wireless or what?

So.. I got to my iPhone.. Settings > General > click on "iTunes Wi-Fi Sync" .. and the button "Sync Now" is greyed-out... Something like this:

Automatically sync with iTunes on your computer when your iPhone is plugged in to power and connected to Wi-Fi.

Sync Now

Sync will resume when "USER-PC" is available.

Help me please? My intention was to finish syncing (especially my songs) back on my iPhone WITHOUT connecting it either to a computer or a charger!

I had the exact same problem... (Win7x64, iPhone4, iTunes 10.5). I tried most of your suggestions, but then I noticed in my "Networking & Sharing Center" I was connected to multiple networks. 1 wireless, 1 unknown (which was because of VirtualBox). In Virtual Box I removed the networking ability and iTunes began to sync immediately.

Got my iPhone 4 w/ iOS5 on Win7 working finally!

Note: When I started I had the "Sync with this IPhone over Wi-Fi" box already checked from prior attempts.

Combination:

Turned off Windows Firewall

Reset cable modem & wireless router

While iPhone connected by cable, unchecked "Sync with this...Wi-Fi" box.

Cable Sync

Checked "Sync with this...Wi-Fi

Cable Sync

Unplugged & worked!

BUT Then I turned on the firewall...killed the connection.

Turned off firewall

Went in to Inbound Rules

Deleted Bonjour Service Rules

Delteted iTunes Service Rules

Closed iTunes

Turned on firewall

Restarted iTunes

The Windows Security Alert popped up for iTunes.exe

Allowed access Private Network

Yahtzee.

Feel fairly certain it was the firewall all along, but resetting the modem & router probably didn't hurt. Thanks for starting the thread!

I have the same problem with an iPhone 3GS and a MacBook. Macbook has 10.6.8 OS.

It all worked yesterday and has just stopped today. Nothing changed, tried powering off and rebooting just about everything with no success. iTunes was updated via the software updater so I might try uninstalling it.

Big time disappointed with IOS 5. Had a few niggly problems like this and find out I have to buy Lion to use iCloud. Very un Apple like. So back to cable synching and back up.

I had the same problem. Everything seems to be fine! iPhone 4 (iOS5) connected to the same wifi as my macbook. iTunes open, wifi sync enabled in iTunes.

When I start my macbook for the first time during the day, the sync works properly. During surfing the net or doing other activities on my mac, sometimes I re-sync my iphone. And this time iTunes can't find my iPhone.

I noticed some facts:

1) Once all devices connected to the same wifi and synced once (or not), iTunes stay connected to your iPhone AS LONG AS YOUR iPHONE IS KEPT PLUGGED TO POWER AND CONNECTED TO WIFI!

but sometimes iTunes disconnects from my iPhone, and what I do is JUST TURN WIFI OFF ON MY IPHONE AND RECONNECT IT TO WIFI AND ALSO RESTART ITUNES!

Cheers! 😀

No, really guys it works!!!

1) Make sure that your iPhone and mac are connected to the same wifi.

2) Make sure that you have enabled the option " Sync with this iPhone over wifi"

( To do this, connect your iphone to your mac, and in iTunes, go to your device, and select this option under the tab "Summary")

3) Make sure that your iPhone is plugged in to power.

4) iTunes will detect your device automatically.

IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS,

1) Switch off wifi on your iphone and reconnect to the same wifi after 2 seconds.

2) Restart iTunes ( Quit and ten reopen)

Hey all.

Updated iTunes and iOS of my iPad and iPod Touch yesterday and all was working with the wi-fi sync...

Today when i turned iTunes on... Poof.... iTunes doesn't detect the iPod or the iPad.

Also tested the Apple TV and it is working with iTunes as expected and both iPad and iPod can "see" and use the iTunes library.

Still trying to figure it out after checking some stuff people suggested here:

- Wi-fi sync is checked.

- Removed the unused wireless network i had from Virtual Box.

- Oppened the doors in the firewall that the iTunes use.

- Rebooted everything... No dice!

I am using a Windows 7 x64 connected throw LAN and both iPod and iPad connecte throw wi-fi.

Any help is very apreciated.

So... I was having the same problems as most people it seams... Win7, Itunes 10.5, iOS 5.0... all syncing options setup correctly in iTunes... did the initial sync... would try to sync and then either the iPad would disappear and the sync occur and the content wouldn't appear, or the iPad 1/iPhone 4 would disappear from iTunes and the sync wouldn't occur. Two fixes...

  1. Turning Windows Firewall completely off (even for the public zone, not just the intranet zone) stopped the iPad and iPhone from disappearing from iTunes... partial success as the items still wouldn't sync all the time. then,
  2. I have a wired connection to my router but also had a (disabled) wi-fi adapter to the router (for ul/dl speeds). Enabled the wi-fi adapter (as well as the physical LAN adapter so they ar eboth running at once) and bam!!! working beautifully!

NOTE - Thing to note... anything that you have previously cued up to sync will sync again so you may need to remove a bunch of stuff from the iPad/iPhone afterwards.

I really hope these TWO steps combined can help others in my situation. No if only they re-enable the multi-touch without me having to jailbreak because I REALLY don't want to to get it back but will if I have to.

Cheers!
