No iCloud on Snow Leopard? THIS IS A JOKE, APPLE!

Right now I'm thinking about leaving Apple products behind for good. So I can't use iCloud on Snow Leopard (which is not that old)? Meaning my syncing (contacts, bookmarks, calendars etc.) will just stop when they shut down MobileMe in 2012?

GREAT WAY TO DEAL WITH YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS, APPLE!

I can't update to Lion (various reasons). So now what? Dump the crap Macbook+iMac+iPhone in the toilet? Should be a great idea!

VERY PROFESSIONAL, CONGRATULATIONS!

Mobile Me sync is still operational, I don't understand what your issue is.

If I upgrade my iPhone to iCloud none of my Macs that are running Snow Leopard and Leopard will continue syncing,

Plus MobileMe is being turned off next year.

Then do not migrate to iCloud until you have a solution, you have 8 months.

And that solution in 8 months is?

THE SOLUTION IS TO SEARCH FOR A SERVICE PROVIDER THAT OFFERS WHAT YOU LOOK FOR. APPLE HAS NO SOLUTIONS FOR YOU IF YOU WANT "IDISK".

If you would be happy with just the limitated set of icloud features, then buy a Lion capable Mac or a Vista machine or some iOS5 device and sign up for icloud.

Is that so hard to understand ?

I don't use iDisk, your point?

Also don't use iWeb as I own my own servers.

I do use keychain sync, mail rules sync, address book sync, bookmarks sync, iCal sync.

We have dozens of Macs bought over the last decade.

Part of the reason we chose Macs was for the sync services that were part of the Mac OS. First it was called iTools and Sync (or something like that) and laster it was called MobileMe.

Now all of a sudden Apple is saying that unless everything is running Lion all sync services will cease after moving anything to iCloud and everything will cease after June 30.

It would be like all of a sudden Microsoft removing Exchange from its services.

Sorry, unable to see 8 months into the future, and if I could I'd be looking at lottery ticket numbers.

In order for iCloud to be useful for us it needs to work on Snow Leopard and Leopard machines and also needs to sync Mail rules and Keychains, just like MobileMe does now.

icloud is not a replacement for mobile me. If you need features that are no more, you need replacement services.

And iCloud is exclusive only to those owners of EITHER ios5 AND/OR LION.

If you all so badly want to jump across the iCloud, all you need is a 189 US$ iPod touch 8GB or even a used 3rd gen touch as the cheapest device that lets you enjoy ALL icloud features, including keeping your @me.com adress forever. You do not NEED a Mac for that. And you do not WANT one, if you know this : Some features are also not even working or present in a Mac, yes not even in Lion :

iwork document syncing is not even supported in Lion with iwork installed, it is exclusive to iOS5 devices alone, just only to let you know what you think you "miss" . icloud syncing between Macs and iOS5 is basically only Mail,Adresses and iCals .

And the iPod touch by the way is not only a mp3/video player. It is a full blown Mini-Mac in your pocket with iMovie and iwork, facetime, mail , safari, dictionary, imessage, ibooks, and apps and games and all you wish to ever need. So just get that. You might use your old Desktop or Laptop boxes for "other stuff", but you do not need them for iCloud.

Go over to the iCloud forums for Mac. There are people that wished they never signed up for it, because basically it is pointless if you only have a Mac. iCloud only shows what it really has to offer on iOS5 and with icloud-enabled apps on it.

You seem to be confused about the primary purpose of iCloud, which is to keep your mobile devices in sync with your desktop devices. And, in this respect, it is working very well with both iOS5 and Lion.

And suggesting that an iPod touch could somehow supplement or even replace a desktop computer for anyone other than a small child is laughable in the extreme, and suggests a very narrow view of what people use computers for.

Do not engage The Sjazbec in conversation. It is futile. There are those on this thread that believe or fail to understand that according to Apple's own statistics - Snow Leopard is still the majority user base. They fail to realize that iCloud was only enabled with Lion 10.7.2 just days ago, and until then MobileMe was the official service for linking desktop and iOS devices. The fail to see that Windows Vista is supported and yet Snow Leopard is labeled as somehow unworthy. Do not engage those individuals.

I have left my feedback with Apple. I have much more than one Mac, it is a nontrival task to upgrade them all.

I am posting here so that other users and the Press can hear and feel my (our) frustration, because I know that the press does monitor these forums, even if Apple itself claims it does not.

Fortunately, I hesistated during the web guided iCloud migration of my account and postponed the iOS 5 upgrade for my iPhone and iPad. But there are feature in iOS 5 i would've enjoyed.

I also need to cut back on the Star Trek, cause I am writing in the voice of Tuvak. 😉

I think this is the most stupid thread. Leaving just because of iCloud is not being available on Leopard.

You're angry because your boss doesn't want to spend $30 upgrade on Lion at job.

Yeah just $30 for Lion, plus tens of thousands for newer Macs, thousands more for software upgrades and even then we won't be able to run some needed software due to the loss of Rosetta.

I'm sure all those attempting to help us Snow Leopard users have read the whole thread about why various people can't upgrade to Lion, like:

The costs of upgrading many computers.

The costs for upgrading thousands of dollars/pounds/euros worth of software.

And mine, which is that I already have Lion but it suffers an Internet failure when waking from sleep, a problem which Apple has acknowledged.

So, maybe throwing a comment like "Upgrade to Lion!11" does nothing for those dating this subject, except increase their post count and make them look a bit ... unobservant?
