No iCloud on Snow Leopard? THIS IS A JOKE, APPLE!

Right now I'm thinking about leaving Apple products behind for good. So I can't use iCloud on Snow Leopard (which is not that old)? Meaning my syncing (contacts, bookmarks, calendars etc.) will just stop when they shut down MobileMe in 2012?

GREAT WAY TO DEAL WITH YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS, APPLE!

I can't update to Lion (various reasons). So now what? Dump the crap Macbook+iMac+iPhone in the toilet? Should be a great idea!

VERY PROFESSIONAL, CONGRATULATIONS!

m stan,

I just activated my @me.com account in Mac OS X Mail and it identifies it as a MobileMe IMAP account type. Yes, I did the move from MoblieMe to iCloud. It did download my @me.com messages, so maybe we're good to go. There would be more comfort in seeing the account identified as iCloud. Maybe I need to change the incoming and outgoing mail servers to "magic" addresses (similar to the clever fix for iCal, which I enabled earlier today).

Still not able to turn on Photo Stream in iPhoto 9.2 running under Snow Leopard. I look forward to the rumored 10.6.9 update!

oh man! I am sorry. I do appreciate it. Perhaps it is still beneficial information. It just boggles my mind, these people are complaining that icloud is not going to be available for Snow Leopard but yet have given Lion a chance. There is no way they could have given it a chance. Moving Forward, is a good thing. And sometimes change causes things to be eliminated. In this case Mobile Me was eliminated. Oh well... Its just like a car... if your tires need replacing... you upgrade them, you dont keep riding on bald tires.

Hi Carlo

I would love to upgrade to Lion but my MacBook Pro and iMac are too old (by only a few months, apparently) to upgrade. Lion requires Intel Core 2 Duo and mine are Intel Core Duo.

But the problem is not so big. Mail is sync'd. iCal is now also sync'd via CalDAV. So all I need is to connect my iPad and iPhone to my MBP occasionally to synchronize Address Book & Contacts. And as for storage, I always found Dropbox superior to MobileMe, especially when used in conjunction with the Goodreader app for iPad.

It's a great shame that all us MobileMe 'investors' who cannot upgrade have been dumped but, as they say... That's life 😟

I think I'm done with this thread. Nothing more is going to happen until and unless 10.6.9 gets released.

I'm not going to do your job for you TZ, and I don't know if this one is exactly what you want, but have a look at http://mac.eltima.com/sync-mac.html and see if that can help. This is the first one I looked at and there are lots more. Do a little research.

Looked through their website and it doesn't look like it syncs mail rules. Also it looks like it is WiFi only. It does not seem like this is a solution.

The only thing holding me back from upgrading to Lion is the loss of Rosetta. You must realize that that is huge for some. For me, it would mean I would have to shell out $200 to Intuit to upgrade from QuickBooks 2007 which works just fine in Snow Leopard. I also have a couple other PPC-code apps which would not run under Lion on my MacBook Pro 17".

I actually don't mind jumping back to an older Mac once in a while. For example, I have an old version of BarCodePro which runs in Mac Classic OS 9 on my G4 PPC/500 MHz/1 GB SDRAM tower (which still provides daily service as my design jobs file server). I fire up Classic about 2 or 3 times a year to do a few bar codes. That has saved me the cost of upgrading my bar code program – minimum $200.

I also recently purchased a used PowerPC G5 tower ("stuck" at Leopard) for $200 which is being groomed now to replace my PowerPC G4 as my file server. I am doing nightly backups using Bombich's Carbon Copy Cloner, finally got an error-free clone last night (thanks to guidance by Mike Bombich) and am ready now to cut over.

There is a lot of legacy Mac equipment and software which is still proving itself to be very useful to media designers like me.

Hi Garry,

Thanks in advance for any help. You say that you have the mail sync'd, how did you do that? I was able to get the iCal sync and have yet to do it for mail. I am using a Verizon account and I am not certain has to how to get the mail to cooperate using SL. I also have an iPad and an iPhone. They seem to be acting ok sharing. Can you give me advice on setting up the mail piece of this work around?
