The iCloud IMAP server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user XXXX

p99-imap.mail.me.com is not editable in my Mail.com configuration. Is this just a temporary glitch?

As I mentioned previously - I'm fairly confident the problem is on the authenticating servers at "applid.apple.com".

Going there earlier directly from Safari produced variously:

Broken HTML

Server not found

and about 70% of the time a connection

Even when I got a connection subsequent pages deeper on the site may or may not load.

Since this is the address where mail is checking credentials iOS mail and client mail react slightly differently to the wait and/or bad return.

It may either be a load issue, or if this server bank also serves MobileMe, a configuration issue.

We can but wait...

I fixed mine by doing so important steps! (don't have Mail on your Mac open while doing this).

1. Open Mail (if it is still not working) and go to Mail's Preferences, Accounts. In the Accounts pane highlight the non-working iCloud. Then select DELETE IT (don't worry you will add it right back going through the steps.) Then quit the SMTP server list (making sure you deleted any iCloud reference). Then quit Mail.

2. Go to theiCloud web page and make sure you can log into it and use the email portion on the web site! This is import to procede!

3. If you can complete step one, proceed with this step. Open System Preferences->iCloud pane and sign OUT. Close System Preferences and open it right back up and go back to System Preferences->iCloud pane and sign back in with your Apple ID.

4. Open Mail. Then go to Mail's Preferences, Accounts pane. Then if the iCloud Account is gone click on the + sign and add the iCloud account back using the settings found at the Apple site iCloud: Mail Server information . Just make sure when using the when using the incoming name, use your APPLE ID that you signed in on the Apple iCloud web site !!!

Enjoy Apple's fix. As I said before on the incoming iCloud Mail setup use the SAME APPLE ID you can sign into the Apple iCloud site !

I just hope this fix works for all of you because it worked for me here on the East coast at 1130, Thursday October 13th.

This works, I did it a bit different, I created a blah@bob.com to avoid the system forcing imap/smtp servers on me and manually put the information from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864 into the outgoing and incoming server info, saved it then went back and changed the stuff to my @mac.com email...working fine now...

I think satcomer's solution is more elegant.

Thanks!
