I installed iCloud this morning. Now I am getting the mail password problem. Nothing works.
Loading mail through Safari browser is agonizingly slow when it loads at all.
I closed the mail app, and opened it again, entered my password, and now i'm receiving mail again.
Seems to be working again now. May be on and off for a while. This is not unusual given the major rollouts yesterday and the vast amount of interest in icloud, ios 5, etc. Let's just be patient while the kinks are worked out. Like someone above said, maybe we were all the final beta testers before the 4s is delivered tomorrow.
Mine just started working. Fingers crossed.
I'm there with you. Same thing. This is why I've never relied on it as my main email. I, too, am wondering why on earth I decided to go to iCloud on the opening day. Major mistake.
I have no MAIL connection on the icloud account. I also have no email on my Blackberry. Sometimes I get mail through the webmail iCloud connection, but sometimes it won't take the password either.
Like many others, I won't bother to upgrade on the first (or 10th) day again.
Apple really screwed this up. Someone needs to lose their very high-level job at Apple.
What an amateurish effort for "the biggest US corporation."

I only went with iCloud opening day because MoblieMe was falling apart. I figured iCloud would be more stable. I was wrong. I'm so frustrated.
Having same issue here with my Mail client and me.com account. Any resolution planned or in the works?
Same problem here...., Iphone and ipad working fine, but "mail" intermitently rejects my log password. It worked for a few minutes and then it went out again.
I'm afraid the problem will persist for a while as it seems to be a system overload case...
Mine is now working again.
Issue Resolved. Here's how you fix it:
Go to Mail preferences, click on "Accounts", click on the iCloud account in question, then click on "Advanced". Uncheck the little box that says "Enable this account".
I don't have any inside information. But from my telecommunications background I can assure you Apple knows of the problem and it's their top priority.
As for someone loosing their job I don't agree. You can validate changes ahead of time. But sometimes you can't find all the bugs until 20 million people are trying to access the service... at the same time.
Same error still persists. Mail via iCloud's website also painfully slow, and intermittant.
Why did you shell out for Lion on both devices? The Lion 10.7 license covers upto 5 Mac's in your household. U only needed one copy....
Same problems here 😟
