Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
The playback on iPad 2 podcasts is stuck in 1/2 speed. Cannot figure out where to change setting to go back to normal. There was a 1x, 2x and 1/2x playback control button in prior iOS versions. Is it gone now, or am I just overlooking it?

I'm sure this 1/2 speed thing is a bug... but right with you on the loss of features while adding nothing. Other things that are missing from iPad podcasts now besides the ability to put the menu front and center:

This is a major problem - I have a iPad 1 and listen to lots of podcast at 2x. Is there any other software that will work? I can not belive apple let this happen.
The new Music app is a horrible, ugly, poorly designed UI replacement for the iPod app which worked perfectly and was beautifully designed. There was no need to replace it.
I'm on an iPad 2 and am stuck listening at half speed too. My extra problem is that even though I have probably a 100 podcasts on it, the podcast menu item doesn't show up until I download a new podcast. So unless I download something new I do not have the privilege of listening to my old podcasts at half speed.
From the huge problems installing it to everything else, 5 just seems half-baked to me and I wish I hadn't upgraded, which is something I don't think I've ever said.

I feel the same way. I lost information in the upgrade. I had back issues of the WSJ on my iPad - now they are gone.
Well, I'm not the only poor guy who got this speed problem...
This is the only thing makes me feel better...
Anyway, does anybody try to reinstall APPs and Podcasts from a new iOS5 instead of upgrade from iOS 4.x.x?

Same thing. Podcasts on iPad 2 at half speed. Scrubber controls available are nothing like what's in the iPad documentation PDF for ios5:
Additionally in the very same new manual you have a description for multitasking gestures, it's not in the preference in real life!!
I'm surprised that Apple messed like this.
Same issue for me. What concerns me is that this issue was in the beta versions based on an internet search. And nothing was done before release...
That's making this problem even more unforgivable.
I love iOS but the music player had definitely been downgraded to top it all off the podcast playback bug and missing speed control is really annoying!!!
Seems you are not alone! I am very frustrated that after downloading ios 5 on my ipad, all podcasts are stuck on half speed! If you download manual off apple website it shows variable playback speed, clearly not there - this must be a bug! No blue dots not 30 second rewind. I urge you and everyone to leave feedback at apple.com/feedback
Even though it SAYS that it's the instruction guide of iOS 5, there is nothing in the guide that shows a feature from iOS 5. And at the end, the guide says that it was copyright 2010. It's obviously not a new manual...
Update - I just checked again and they now DO have a manual up that reflects iOS 5. And the picture above in tamboril's note showing the 2x button is no longer in the manual.
I wish I would of known this before I updated cause I never would of updated. Anyway to go back to older version once you've updated?
I just checked the Music app on my iPod Touch running iOS 5.
There are at least 3 features available in that iPod Touch Music app, which are missing from the iPad version:
1) Playback speed selection (1/2x, 1x, 2x)
2) Get more episodes
3) The tracks info of each podcast
