How do change the playback speed in iOS 5 for podcasts on iPad 2?

I did a restore and started over from scratch and my podcasts and audiobooks at least play at regular speed. Still not happy because I used 2x all the time!

OMG!! I am having the same problem! I listen to podcasts DAILY, and now, I am in agony. Does anybody know if there has been an update, or if Apple knows that this problem exists? I'm extremely anxious to get this problem remedied. What can I do?

I am so uphappy with this upgrade. I listen to podcast at 2x, and now I can only do 1/2 speeds. Luckly, I still have an android phone (was thinking of buying an iPhone) and I found an app that speeds up my podcast. I will use this instead of my iPad.

Same problem as everyone else - stuck in half speed on podcasts on iPad. But no problem with my iPhone 4, which is working better than ever (including podcasts with variable playback speed and 30 second rewind). I was worried that ios5 would hobble the iPhone (as happened to my old iPhone 3 when I installed ios4) but it is working fine.

Get iCatcher. Tide us over until apple fixes this. ICatcher is amazing.

I could at least reset it to 1X speed by resetting the settings:

Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings

This does erase general Settings like known WiFi networks, stored passwords, background picture configuration, etc. But it does not reset your synched stuff or 3rd party application settings or home screen order. So this generates some additional work, but it could be far worse.

After that, my podcast playback speed was back to normal. Of course the switch to 2X is still gone.

That's a great find. I was too scared and limited in time to try resetting.

But now that you validated this I finally tried just now. It work, as you say it doesn't restore the speed control. But at least now podcast and audiobooks plays at normal speed which is at least acceptable.

I am having the exact same experience. This is extremely frustrating, and hardly can be qualified as enhancing the product. Since I listen primarily to podcasts, it has renderned my iPad nearly worthless for my audio use.

Apple please fix this! The iPad is a great device, but this change makes using it for listening to Podcasts or audiobooks so much more cumbersome. Stop trying to force us to use your device the way you want us too. And if this is a ploy to get us to buy iPhones or iTouches, I'll buy Android first!

I will not update my ipod cause I want to listen at 2x speed. I love my ipad but one of the big things was to listen to all my podcasts. I have 16 days worth of podcasts saved. To listen to it at 1x speed or 1/2 speed is such a waste of time for something that is supposed to make things more effecient. Please come out with an update to recitfy this. Plus I hate the way they are displayed now but I can get over that, the speed I can not get over.

I hope you mean the iPod Touch.

The new Music app in iOS 5 has more features on the iPod Touch/iPhone than it has on the iPad.

Lyrics are mentioned in the new manual so their not working is probably a bug, but the new manual doesn't mention variable speed or the 30 second rewind in audiobooks and podcasts at all. Really unfortunate, I just can't understand what Apple was thinking when they pulled out all these features and made these bad decisions about the interface of the music app.

I left a feedback from day one and I recommend everybody to do the same, the more we say we need theses feature back the more likely it they are going to address it.

I could understand not having a new feature but losing a feature my device already had is totally unacceptable.

I'm a bit concerned that I have not seen any coverage of this in places like Macworld, etc. It very much reminds me of the iPod Touch, which had threads going 100+ pages and never got any coverage (or fix), while much shorter iPhone discussions made all the news. I fear the tech media is starting to treat the iPad as basically a child's device just as they do with the Touch.
