How do change the playback speed in iOS 5 for podcasts on iPad 2?

The playback on iPad 2 podcasts is stuck in 1/2 speed. Cannot figure out where to change setting to go back to normal. There was a 1x, 2x and 1/2x playback control button in prior iOS versions. Is it gone now, or am I just overlooking it?

By 'restoring' my settings (i.e. trashing the lot and re-setting - tediuous!) I have got podcasts to play at normal speed.

But I am now missing a great feature enabling the process of listening to a podcast to be like speed-reading a text. The rapid ingestion of information and the overview it provides makes listening to podcasts a much more valuable use of time.

After a few minutes of listening it sounds 'normal' because of the work someone at Apple put into processing the playback to remove any pitch distortion - why throw away all that good work? It appears to be just careless haste because the iPhone iOS5 version retains the feature!

Bring the feature back please!

Like 'Hunter' I will be leaving feedback here http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

It is important that we all keep leaving feedback, otherwise Apple will just ignore Podcast and Audiobook listeners and not change a thing.

I for one will be putting my iPhone and iPad up for sale if nothing changes soon in 2012. I'm loosing faith in Apple, now Steve is gone it seems things have already started to unravel.

I've just submitted my feedback using the link above:

Several features have inexplicably disappeared from the iPad music application in iOS 5 and bugs have appeared. Why remove so many useful features that were specifically helpful with audio books and podcasts, in particular:

1 The playback speed control for podcasts has gone

2 Chapter support in audiobooks has gone

3 The 30 second rewind button for podcasts has gone

4 Customizable menu so podcasts and audiobooks can be moved to the front page

5 Podcast count--You now have to open each podcast "folder" to see the number of unplayed podcasts

6 Time elapsed/remaining--used to be able to look at a podcast/audiobook and determine how far along you were. Now it has to be the active track.

7 Link to more episodes has gone

Please give us back these useful features and addreess the bug(s). iOS 5 is exciting but for podcasts on the iPad it is a great disappointment, and very unworthy of Apple.

I feel really dumb. I struggled with this speed thing on my iPod Touch 2nd gen (4.2.1) -- making myself as mad as all the folks that posted.

Then I simply tapped once on the screen while listening to an audiobook... (as luck would have it: iWOZ).

Bingo: the speed, progress bar, and all that popps up.

How many other folks feel this foolish?

BreKev: You are in the completely wrong thread: With the iPod, you always had this control exactly where you describe it. And on iOS 4.2.1, we all also had it on our iPads, it vanished only on the iPad with the new Music App on iOS 5.0.

But good news for the rest of us is that iOS 5.1 brought back the Speed control and the 30sec rewind on the iPad. Lyrics (often used for the Table of Content of Podcasts) are still missing on the iPad.

Boglott,

Actually, I now have both the 2nd gen iPod (which the speed control disappeared) and the new iPad.

I found this particular thread when searching for help with iPod last week... As some pointed out, the control disappeared from both Utilities and playback screen after an upgrade.

I picked up the new iPad just yesterday. Haven't had it long enough to locate those controls.

You're right, tapping doesn't retrieve control like the iPod. They're certainly not in the same place.
