How do change the playback speed in iOS 5 for podcasts on iPad 2?

The playback on iPad 2 podcasts is stuck in 1/2 speed. Cannot figure out where to change setting to go back to normal. There was a 1x, 2x and 1/2x playback control button in prior iOS versions. Is it gone now, or am I just overlooking it?

Assuming that is the page that starts "Playing songs and other audio", I can't see what on that page you are pointing out. There does not seem to be any mention of speed controls on that page, or indeed anywhere in the manual.

Precisely the point I'm making!

The previous poster thought that iOS 5 "was not fully beta tested".

The iPad User Guide shows that there are no speed controls in the Music app.

They may have a point. How is it that nobody testing the OS noticed that this feature was not there anymore? It seems unlikely that with sufficient beta testing, this would have gone unnoticed.

So either they are right, and not enough testing was done, or the feature was deliberately removed.

But that is precisely the reason why I'm pointing out page 84 of the iPad User Guide.

This feature was indeed deliberately removed on the iPad as can be clearly seen on that page 84.

If you look at the User Guides of the iPod Touch and the iPhone for iOS 5, the speed controls do exist for those iDevices in their Music app.

I get the feeling that Apple dedicates 90% of its time and efforts to the iphone. iphone is daddy and the ipad is a distant relative (ok it's part of the family, but...). Just look at all of the features that are on the iphone and aren't available on the ipad although it would make sense to have them on the ipad as well.

Anyway, I think the music player received a significant downgrade on IOS5 which is a pity. It looks better (this is subjective of course) but it's way less functional. I really dont understand Apples policy on this. I think IOS 5 is fantastic, so many great add-ons, but why sacrifice some of the useful functions on the previous IOS instead of add some (podcast playback speed at 1,5 for example) - it's literally give with one hand and take away with the other!!!

I guess Apple considers we the ipad users less important than the iphone crowd and we the podcast listeners are apparently even less important!!!! I guess it's all about the numbers!

It would be nice to have some sort of feedback from Apple on this - if not about the removal of podcast player features, then at least the acknowledgement that there is a bug on the poscast player speed and confirmation that they are working on a fix. Does anyone know if there is any possibility of this happening???

I am mightily disappointed in the new player in iOS 5, especially for podcasts.

So many needed features have been removed, such as played indicator, playback speed control. I had grown used to having these features on iOS 4. It's a significant backward step for me.

Why has Apple done this? Well, probably not because of any technical or financial constraints! I think that leaves two possibilities: a mistake or a cynical marketing strategy.

3 weeks + since this happened and not a peep from Apple. Hope they fix this, but in the meantime, I found a decent app that will play podcasts (and any music or vid) at speeds up to 2x. And it's FREE. The app is called PodSpeed. It's not perfect (I don't think you can multi-task with it or have it play while your iPad is off), but it does let me listen to podcasts at a fast speed.
