iphone 4+iOS 5: volume issue when using bluetooth carkit (VW passat '11)

i searched all over the net and i didnt find any record of my problem.

i got the iphone 4. it used to run 4.3.3 it worked perfectly. even with my newly VW passat with the RSN310

since i installed ios 5 i found improvements(display wise) but a few downsiders (very annoying ones)

whenever my phone connects with my car, my ringer sound & music sound goes flatlined. (all the way down to nearly mute)
settings > sounds

music (airplay)

now if i want to stream my music trough the speakers i dont hear anything unless i raise the volume to MAX and its like a mouse sound. (barely hearable)

(to stream music, i just press MEDIA on my car dash board)

in order to correctly play and hear incomming calls i have to do the following:

wait for phone to connect, then go settings > sounds, raise ringer volume (for incomming calls), then go to music, raise the volume and only THEN i may press Media on my car dashboard to play music & hear incomming calls.

quite some process compared to what used to work fine 3 days ago (even taking into considerations that my RSN 310 didnt display the song info back then, but with ios5 is gives me artis, albmum & song tittle.)

I reported the issue to Apple via their feedback page here:

I doubt we'll see a fix in 5.0.1 though.

Same issue with my 2012 VW Jetta Sportwagen with Navigation and an iPhone 4S.

Quite annoying.

Really strange I have the same problem with a new Skoda yeti which uses the same VW system. I have a iPhones 3GS & 4s both running 5os. Here is the strange bit I hired a Seat Leon with the same VW system last week and it worked fine.

Guess what!! i have the same issue with a Kenwood car DVD bluetooth kit, i can't really know what to do, this drives me crazy, plus the many others issues i am facing since updated to IOS5!!!!! HELPPPPP

To everyone who is experiencing this issue - it'll only get fixed if enough of us report it to Apple officially.

Also - if the vloume gets set to zero when it connects to your head unit, and if you can reach your phone (if it's in your pocket, for example), I've found that a single click on the + hardware volume button solves the issue. Unlocking an using the volume slider control does not...

Passat CC RN315 - same issue and have reported it. I hope there is enough noise to make Apple fix it..

Also, when I am streaming music through it, the time gone/remaining is wrong as well - looks like it is playing a double speed or something.

Does anyone know it there is a app or somtihing that can automaticly turn up the sound again, for example evry 5th minute or somthing?

I have also noticed taht is not every time it happens, some times it dont turn the volume down, but about 90 percent it does.

Hi I have go the same volume issue as everyone else, however it does not replicate in other cars just VW I have tested this in an Audi A6 2011 model and the problem does not replicate. I suspect the software in the VW is old and needs updating I am wating for VW to contact me with information will post on here if I get some

hi again all,

the issue indeed ocures randomly. ringer or airplay or both goes mute on connecting via BT but NEVER goes back to its original volume setting after disconnecting.

the airplay going on mute when connecting is the most annoying for media playing. cause if you dont raise your volume the airplay is ****

the ringer is very annoying, cause you need to remember manually raising the ringer again after parking your car. if you dont, you loose alot of calls. for busynes persons this is a nightmare.

i thank you all very much to reply. at least i know i am not the only one going crazy about this issue.

i suggest we all report this issue using the link below and hopefully they will hear our complaint.

Strange thing again, today before I up dated. Problem was sorted! Don't know how but test 5 times with ringer volume staying at full. Happy dazzzy".........

are you saying that after connecting via BT, your Ringer remains UNCHANGED?

what about airplay? upon connecting, what does here happen?

i asume you updated with 5.0.1? (4 or 4S?)

I updated to 5.0.1 last night. I got in the car this morning, and there where no issues with the volume when the iPhone automatically connected to the headunit.

Too soon to say that it's fixed, but it looks good... 🙂
