my ipad 1 with ios 5.0.1 is crashing in App Store from time to time, in Safari very frequently, especially on heavy pages, and what is interesting, that when I switched from ipad to my android acer tablet, i noticed that their browser is crashing from time to time to heavy pages as well. i am thinking that may be is WebKit engine is the problem, since ipad and android use it?! in any case, i hope apple will notice all these crashes and problems, and will fix this in the next release.
i don't get why apple hasn't addressed this issue with 5.0.2 release few months ago... so strange... they for sure know about this, since all our iOS devices are submitting crash reports to Apple.
let's hope for the best, but for now, i can't use ipad much, so i use my android acer tablet. btw, it is much faster than my ipad 1, has better display, better cameras than ipad 2 and I can play my torrent movies 🙂 which I can't watch on ipad... not to mention, this acer tablet was only 350 dollars on amazon.
i hope apple will come up with something great with ipad 3... ipad 2 wasn't enough for me to upgrade.
I loved my iPad 1 and wouldn't go anywhere without it until I loaded ios5. Now Safari crashes all the time and getting on the web is hopeless. I use it less and less. Was looking forward to iPad 3 but now I don't care if and when it comes out. I won't buy it as long as this product goes unsupported. I use flickr a lot but after you have to sign back in twenty times a day it's not that enjoyable. Does anybody at Apple ever read or respond to these posts?
There's are at least 3 other similar threads about Safari crahing after 5 updates "After 5.0.1 update, filled with other people having the same issues. We're also having issues on iTunes searches crashing. In fact, other apps may crash if one or both are open at the same time. I don't think I see any real olutions, but I wish some Apple pros would chime in and help us out.
I have enjoyed most of my Apple products, but the iPad 1 + iOS5 issue is the most frustrating problem for me, ever. If this persists I don't think I ever will buy post-Jobs Apple devices at all.
And there it is.......the magic words........POST-JOBS!!!
Would we still be fighting this problem weeks and weeks after ios5 and a full 2 weeks after Christmas if Steve were still at the helm?
I have to say that it's a little embarrassing that I've had to drag my laptop out now every day since I've received this ipad2 and I originally wondered if I'd ever need it again after NAS + ipad2 but alas apple is disappointing me utterly at this point! :(
I have original iPad.
It never had issues until ios5. Now constant web browsing crashes. App store crashes as well. Aps seem to run ok without crashing more than before. Ie very rarely.
I have the feeling that original iPad users are being left behind. iPad 2 wasn't enough of an upgrade for me to get and if apple doesn't address this issue soon I will not be paying a premium to get crappy buggy hardware with iPad 3.
Please fix this issue and please communicate with us. The most irritating thing is the silence. Im a big boy and can take bad news but leave me in the dark and I turn into a petulant child.

What were you told when you took your iPad to the Apple Store?
Have not taken it in. I have read enough here to know the issue is ios5. I am sitting waiting for an update that will fix it. I'm sure it will come... One day.
As for work arounds. I don't do work arounds. Make stuff that works as it should without me having to stand on my head blowing bubbles staring into a southwestern sun. Madness I say.
Also would love to see apple acknowledge the issue.

That makes it difficult for Apple to communicate with you. How are they supposed to know that you're having a problem?
i'm having this same annoying problem. my son just signed us up for icloud. so i want to see if that's the problem for me as well. how do i switch options to off? i don't see icloud in my settings. where else could it be? at a different spot, like my laptop or my son's ipad? my son has no trouble with his ipad. he gets right on. just mine.
I'm not under warranty so I have to pay to make an appointment with an apple expert. Seeing as this is a wide spread issue that is well documented all over the web and all my issues mirror that of others....
Deep breath....
I thus concluded it was a redundant act that would only cost me more time and frustration. People in this very thread have taken in there iPads and gotten nowhere.
But I can see your point. I will concede despite all the overwhelming hearsay and circumstantial evidence I have provided I could somehow be the cause. Life is all calculated risk sir and I am confident my approach is the right one in this case. Is that fair in your eyes?
I also think you don't like seeing apple being criticized fairly or otherwise. Ill spare you how I reached that conclusion.
In closing I will simply say... Apple please fix ios5 on the original iPad. It is a shadow of its former self.
Ps a proper update that fixes the bugs. Not workarounds.
Do what you will. In the meantime, I'll enjoy my trouble-free iPad.
Leaving feedback online is another option. After disabling pretty much everything (I'm not even using Mail or iCal) at least I can read books, and use Safari for five minutes before it crashes, a HUGE improvement.
The Safari crashes under IOS5 seem to be related to the web page content. Safari is very reliable on some pages and consistently "broken" on others. This has something to do with web page source code content. It is so repeably bad I would think the software team at Apple would have already found the probelm by now.
I crash all the time writing replies on Fatwallet.com and Slickdeals.net using my iPad 2 64 Wifi. I'm getting through this post. I often write my reply in email or Docs 2 Go and coy and paste to speed up the odds of success. Reading isn't as volition as trying to type online. I'm still going on this forum. Haven't stopped to test a time theory.
