Happens consistently with Safari on iPad 1 after iOS 5 update. Doing complete restore did not help. Doing restore but not installing non-default apps didn't help either.

- My iPad is not jailbroken

- happens on all websites: Apple, Flickr, Google image search results, etc.;

- happens when Safari is only running application

Crash logs show out of memory errors.

(At least Apple can't blame the crashes on Flash LOL)

Unfortunately same problem: update IOS 5 Ipad 1 Safari crashes constantly. Many hours spent during last 2 weeks to find solution. Today total set back to original settings failed too. Impossible to watch Youtube. Diagnose: constant low memory. After enjoying my ipad for 11 months this is quite disappointing. Wish I could go back to IOS4. Apple: please find solution!

I am experiencing the same exact issue on my ipad original. I called Apple support today and explained that the issue was this: "I have not had a single problem with Safari crashing ever until iOS5. Now it crashes randomly and constantly." I asked if this was a known issue, the tech I spoke with said it was not a known issue and has never heard of it happening before. I have never talked to Apple support before, but I guess they don't research their forums before speaking, since the title of this thread is exactly the problem I was describing on the dime.

His response to my problem, was to clear cookies, saved data, and history. He said he was pretty confident this would fix the issue. 3 hours later. Safari has crashed several times. I really wish they would acknowledge this problem and get us an update or a roll back.

If anyone gets a solution that actually works for the original iPad let us know. I am going to call back tomorrow and give them my case number and reference this thread for evidence that the problem does exhist and is probably going to be growing.

I have been having this same problem, on the ipad 2. My father's ipad 2 wasn't how ever.

I think the reason safari keeps crashing is because of icloud, i had this on my ipad. I have deleted the account, restarted ipad and the internet seems to be working fine.

My solution is to delete icloud till apple arrange a fix.
