iphone backup with 10.5 stuck in step 2 of 4

I connected to iTunes 10.5 with my iphone 4 updated to iOS 5 and iTunes appears to be stuck in Syncing step 2 of 4 Backing up. Is this supposed to take a long time? So far about 25 minutes.

iPhone 4, iOS 5

NOTHING THAT WORKED FOR OTHERS WORKED FOR ME. Not the winsock thing, nor uninstalling and reinstalling everything Apple, not erasing backups, etc.

THIS DID WORK:

I used the Windows 7 System Restore feature to roll back Windows to a couple of days before the problem started. (Check your last sync on the iPhone). The rollback took about 5 minutes. Then I connected my iPhone and it has been syncing beautifully ever since.

It appears that there was a program or windows update that was not installed correctly. By rolling back the operating system, I was able to eliminate it's influence.

If you've also tried *everything* and you're still stuck, try this and tell me if it helped.

Though using the reset winsock command may work for some, it may not work for all. Very likely due to some type of content filter. This was my problem and after removing the content filter it worked fine. Found my info here

I understand that my content filter vendor and Apple are working on a solution. The issue started with iTunes 10.5. and is not fixed in 10.5.1 either.

I found that OpenDNS Home VIP tools (www.opendns.com) work pretty well for content filtering and wont interfere with iTunes. I went this route since BSecure started having the issue with iTunes and the whole home filtering option (using BSecure DNS servers) just caused severe performance issues when just doing web surfing. I have completely removed BSecure from my home. Going with OpenDNS even improved overall web surfing speed because of its caching technology.

@Pilates-contrology. What do i do if it won't let me run as Administrator? A password is required anyway but if i press enter with just the user 'Administrator' then it comes up with this message;

Unable to log on:

Logon failure:user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank passwords not allowed, logon hour restrictions or a policy restriction has been enforced.

I'm stuck on what to do :S. Can you help at all?

Will this work for a mac-mini as well? If so, where do you find the command prompt window on an apple machine? I got the mini last week thinking that the pc was the issue but I'm still having issues with the mini synching to iTunes. This makes me think that the newer itunes software updates has issues with the older versions file structures and get hung up looking for something.... I can't believe that when you ask someone at an apple store about this they act like you are crazy and won't tell you how to fix it.

Tonight I'm bringing my mini, my iphone, my router and everything to the "GENIUS-BAR" and saying....here make this work!.....We'll see.
