How can I move my Google calendar to iCloud calendar???

On the iPhone I sync the calendar and mail (without contacts) with google. I want to move the current Google calendar to iCloud and start syncing with it from now on.

I could export google calendar to an ical file but iCloud calendar doesn't have an import option. I don't have an Apple computer.

So, how can I back up all my google calendar entries into iCloud???

Thanks!

So I solved this today.......I really wanted to switch everything over to iCloud calendar from Google Calendar (and had entries since 2008).....The easiest way to do this is using iCal on a Mac. The problem was I don't have a Mac. So I went down to my local Apple store (I guess you could use a friend's or work Mac as well). I asked them if I could use a Mac for a bit to get my iCloud calendar to work and was allowed to do so. Here's what I did....

I opened my google calendar on the store Mac's safari (or maybe it was firefox, I don't remember now)

I went into settings and found the export section. Then I exported all my calendars onto the desktop in a Zip file(I have 13 of them!)

Next I opened iCal on the Mac. I added 13 different calendar titles (I used the same titles from my Google calendar) under the add calendar setting (this would be so much easier if I didn't have so many different calendars)

Next I imported each calendar from the Zip file into their respective calendar titles(again this would be easy with fewer calendars but even with 13 of them it only took 10 minutes)

Finally I went to network settings, opened up iCloud setting and put in my user name and password. All my calendars uploaded to my iCloud calendar.

I opened iCloud calendar on safari and logged in. All my calendars were there. They weren't in the same colors as the one's on my google calendar but all of it was there (More on this later).

To finish up I deleted my iCloud account settings under network settings, deleted all the iCal entries, and logged off of the the iCloud and Google calendars (don't want anyone in my stuff)

When I got home I logged in to iCloud and changed the calendar colors to suit my preferences.

Sorry this was a bit long winded....all in all it took about 20-25 minutes and was really easy

Once you have sent the ical file.. you just open the attachment on your iOS device and it will open in CALENDER... on the top right you will see the number of entries that are in this calendar that can be moved...with what I think was an arrow next to it... you hit that button and it allows you to then select which calendar you want to move the entries too.... choose your calendar and boom.. done.

note... you can not have the old calendar still "on" your ios device to move the appointments/events to a new calendar... turn it off in calendar settings or remove it entirely.... personally i removed.

ALSO... just in case... make sure you forward the actual calendar file with the ical extension and not the zip extension...

I was facing exactly the same issue. Depending on how many entries you have on your google calendar, you could do what I have done. It was a pain, and took a little while, but I have achieved the result you are looking for. On my iPhone (or iPad), each google calendar entry I opened, and manually changed which calendar it belonged to. The majority of entries in my google calender were re-occuring, so this made it a little earlier.

After all entries have been changed, you can turn off google calendar sync. I know this isnt the greatest solution, but it works,

Just as a follow up, anyone who is looking to integrate icloud into outlook should read this thread also. It discusses what happens when icloud is integrated into outlook in a business enviroment.

For home users i think it works well. Unless you are using outlook to invite contacts to scheduled appointments, then icloud will integrate with the calendar fine. You can still use outlook to schedule events, and save them into any of the calendars you hve created on icloud. Hope this helps.

Righto

This SHOULD work. But you need outlook. Download google calendar sync and sync google calendar to outlook. Then get iCloud control panel and sync iCloud to outlook. Now your google calendar entries will be on iCloud.

This poses some problems however. Syncing iCloud to your outlook calendar will move all entries in outlook default calendar to iCloud. And this is no help whatsoever for those that don't have outlook.

As bogdan said, surely there must be an easier way...

This sounds like a good plan but what happens when you receive a new calendar event to the Google calendar? Does it automatically sync with iCloud or not?

Is this solution only good for people who are moving away from Google calendars completely?

Thanks

Google calendars and iCloud calendars do not sync with each other.

Not sure everybody will have this problem, BUT... I did this procedure and it all looked pretty good UNTIL I went to EDIT one of the entries I'd moved from Google Cal to iPhone. NO FLIPPING "EDIT" in the upper right corner or anywhere else! After grinding away for a while, I have concluded that any items WITH INVITEES will show up this way. Pretty big PITA if you want to change or add anything to existing items. I went back and deleted all my invitees from each individual event in Google Cal zzzzzz,,,, and then re-imported and everything looks OK, all entries I've checked CAN be edited. This was no biggie for me because I only had one person, my sweetie, as an invitee on our joint event, and I was hoisting the old Google Cal to iPhone specifically so we could have a functional joint calendar instead of sending invitations back & forth, which was messy going "between systems." Now we'll see how well iPhone can talk to/work with itself!
