iPhone 4S screen tint

Got a new iPhone 4S this morning, and when I put it next to my old iPhone 4 I discovered the screen was much 'nicer' on the old iPhone. When I say nicer, its kind of got a really yellow tint to the screen on the 4S, whites are where you notice it the most for example the email looks far nicer on the iPhone 4 screen. All other colours look quite washed out. Anyone else got this problem?

Please educate yourself before posting such garbage, Steve Job was no angel and you should know by now that the iPhone 4 had it's share of issues as well. The iPhone 4S just came out less then 2 months ago, it's hard to say if Apple will officially state this as an "issue" - but to go and say that Tim Cook doesn't give a **** that's just stupid. Unless you're eating breakfast with him on a regular basis please don't assume something you have no control over.

On the other hand, Apple needs to take action and I'm sick and tired of stopping by the Apple store for a possible exchange only to walk out with my initial 4S! Every time I stop by Apple they all have the same lame *** excuse and same yellow screen of death iPhone 4S for me. I didn't pay $300 for a piece of **** phone!

Ya i know that the iPhone 4 had this problem, but it was not this bad that ppl had to take there phone back to apple 4 to 5 time within every 2 weeks. it was just glue for the iphone 4 not the screen and on top of that the iPhone 4 did fix itself. And it had small spots here and there but the 4s is a d a m n f u c king joke that the 4s whole screen was ***** yellow and still apple hasnt done anything about it except to tell us "the screen will fix itself after 2 weeks on full brightness" but to our surprise it didn't and the screen is still ***** yellow or some What yellow on full brightness

It seems mostly people with black iPhones are having issues. I noticed a few people mentioned white. I wonder if that's because the black model maybe sells more? I wish I still had my last one and would have got a picture. There is no way that can be considered normal. Even on 100% brightness it was so dark yellow. I heard its different suppliers. Someone said lg makes some of the screens and they are horrible quality. Not sure how true this is.

I had an apple appointment today and the genius was really nice. One of the nicest professionals I've dealt with. He said he did notice the difference but insisted it was the glue that made my phone yellow and it would go away with time but he would swap it out to make sure I was completely satisfied. To my amazement I got a great replacement! First swap and I'm in business. Whites are not yellow anymore and even the battery and camera images I took previously work and look better. Now I didn't argue with him but I disagree with the glue theory. Yes it did clear up a little over time but here is the kicker, half way brightness on my old one looked way darker almost unbareablie. This one it's almost perfect at brightness halfway. No yellow tint what so ever. He even gave me one still on 5.0. :D

I have just bought an I4S 32GB Black few days ago and also found the screen contrast very washed out and the yellow tint is pretty obvious. It's defiantly going back to Apple for refund because I am sick off having another idevice(ipad2 64gb wifi 3G) with yellow tinited screen. I find it annoying that some people say it's the glue problem but clearly it's not the case because I have had my iPad for ages now, but the screen just gets worse and haven't change a bit. Anyway, no 4s or any other idevices for me until apple fixes it production line. I am going to get Galaxy Naxus instead. Sick of apple being so ignorant about people complaint. Be a man, deal with it Apple!! Stop ripping us off with a second rated product.

Fair enough, but my black one will definitely be going back to apple for refund. No point giving it another try as I don't think I will be as lucky as you. You did the right thing by swapping regardless of whether it's a refurb device or not. I would do the same if it was beyond 14 days of purchase. For those of us who were not so lucky, I suggest we should just leave it or get refund straight away.

Maybe your wireless provider will swap it out for you for a new one after you compare it to their demo phone since you are still in your 14 days. I would hate to see you have to pay a restocking fee for something that is not your fault. I defiantly was not happy about having to drive a hour to the nearest apple store but I did some great things with the family while I was out so it was not so bad.

I went straight for a refund and placed a new order, I much prefer trying my luck by wasting no time going to a store for swap. Don't mind trying my luck one more time by living my normal life while waiting for a new one showing up at my door steps; but that's only going to be 1 more bet, if it's going to be the same yellow lemon, I will keep my $800 and wait for this thread to show good signs 🙂

I am happy and unhappy at the same time seeing this thread grows, happy that people are making noise about their manufacturing defects, but unhappy to see the problem persist 😟

Unbelievable - this is the only word without using profanity to describe today's experience at the Rosedale Mall Apple store here in Minnesota.

I arrived at the Apple store around 5:45pm since my appointment was set for 6pm. Upon arriving I go straight to the black iPhone 4S display models and sure enough, out of the 5 on display only 1 had the proper screen. This one had a beautiful natural hue to it, whites were whites and NOT yellow. Therefore I decided to use this one as an example for comparison.

After checking in and having the next in line IDIOT not Genius Rep come over to speak with me, I immediately compare my current iPhone 4S to the display model I mentioned earlier. This idiot had the nerve to tell me he saw zero, nada, NO differences from the two..... Really? No difference, right? Because obviously a wedding dress is slightly yellow and NOT white, because snow is yellow and NOT white huh???? After exchanging a few words he comes at me with this: "Well I'm a graphics designer and your phone and the one on display are no different and I cannot tell that you have a yellow screen" - Are you ****** kiddin' me? Not only are you trying to act like you're god **** color blind but you are trying to tell me, the god **** customer who paid $300, that I'm wrong and you're right? That you're a so called graphics designer so that automatically puts you above ME and makes me wrong in only wanting the phone that I paid for with my own hard earned money?

Hold up though because it gets better. He tells me he's going to take my phone, go to the backroom, and show his co-workers for their opinions. 10 minutes later he comes back with this: "Well I showed your phone to my co-workers and they don't see the yellow screen, they're also graphics designers and photographers" - this my fellow iPhone 4S users, is when I blew up..... I told this god **** IDIOT that I didn't f'in care to know what he and his lil geeky friends back there were! Whether that's being a graphics designers, photographers and whatever else he was going to come up with - I WANT AN IPHONE 4S with NO YELLOW SCREEN! Since when is the customer WRONG and the Customer Service Rep right? Did I miss something here? Aren't we the ones that bought the **** thing? After roasting this IDIOT in front of customers and his co-workers, I finally tell him to go back there and bring out a replacement for me so that I can decide on whether or not I'd like to proceed with the exchange!

Well guess what? He comes back with an iPhone 4S with an even worse yellow screen. I ask him to let me see another one but he refuses and decides to tell me AGAIN that there are NO differences. At this point I was ready to smack this IDIOT upside the head and shake him till he actually realizes that he's the Customer Service Rep and NOT the god **** customer. As a representative to Apple you should work with your customer to make them feel acknowledged and tend to their needs. I haven't been this disappointed in a very long time, it disgusts me that this fool sat there trying to tell me what his side hobbies were, that he's a graphics designer and that he's right and I'm wrong. I don't care that you're graphics designer, I don't care that you're a photographer - I just want my 4S replaced with one that doesn't have a yellow screen. Is that too much to ask for? I'm done with these IDIOT BAR visits, my last resort is to call Apple Support over the phone and get a replacement that way instead to see if I get lucky.

I'm never going back into this Apple store again. Horrible, simply F'in horrible.

I know how you feell because I share a similar exprenreice a few weeks ago when I was trying to get my yellow tinted iPad 2(64gb 3G wifi) screen replace at London regent street store. One of the genius bar staff was dealing with my case, and after I showed him my ipad screen in comparison with my other one of my friend's(which has very good contrasty and blueish screen) he clearly noticed there is a big difference between the two. Then he immediately call for a few other genius staffs next to him for second opinions and they pull out another iPad from their side (note this one has screen hue in between the two I was showing to them) then line them up infront of me tried to convince me that now you can see the differences is not so significant, claiming all the ipad have slightly different screen hue due to inconsistent manufacturer which is unavoidable, blah blah blah, Apple is nunmber one etc.

I did not buy into any of lame excuses from them trying to talk me out of it because I paid a premium price (£659) for a product expecting the same normal ipad I saw from the store demo not a second rated device. It just shows that what you see from apple store is not what you get, is this leaglle?

Anyway, i then insisted argued many times that my iPad needs a replacement and they just refused by denying the problem are theirs because as a pro tech guy they dont see anything wrong with it. Hence the situation got heated up and one more genius staff joined in trying to win my agument. And now making me looking an idiot by claiming they are proffessional tech people and because more than one of them see no problem with with it so why should I be complaining about it? I then said its easy for you to accept the device because you are not the one who paid for it!!

At that point I knew I wasn't going to get any replacement what so ever, because how can I win the argument from the whole genius team all standing against me. So, I kept insisting my request hoping to turn it around until I run out of steam and give up, but most surprisingly they ran out of patient before me and just walked away and shout out "Thats enough from you and you are not geting it replaced and I am putting notes into the system saying we have performed a diagnostic test with the screen of your ipad and it is perfect" then off she went without coming back to me, leaving me with the original genius staff standing with complete silence and tension between us. I have no idea why she joined in the conversation in half way and demonstrated such attitude towards me since she is not the one dealing with my case originally and yet she has the authority to conclude my case.

Anyway, I was wow by Apple's customer services and wow by Apple's product. They think yellow is normal, ike telling you the earth is square not round. Why should I be educated again? Have you ever seen the film call 'flight plan'? I felt like I was the one who have lost my daughter and called for help but somebody manipulated the whole flight crew to render me as an insane passenger.

Enough is enough, and enough from Apple. It's a free world. We have option to shop elsewhere.

P.S. My suggestion to all of you who gets the yellow gate idevice is that if you are not happy with it, you can just return it within 14 days of purchase. Don't bother replace it at genius bar, because you will most likely be facing those stubborn genius at apple claiming you are insane. Apple is number one and everything is perfect.

Back from my trip to the Apple Store Genius bar. Firstly going at 17:10 on the 2nd Saturday in December is a BAD idea, dear me was that place busy.

I checked in and was immediately deflected being told that Apple Support "shouldn't have told you that it can be swapped, we don't exchange for yellow screens.". I pointed out that I understand that might be the case but I'm sorry that was not what I was told by Apple Support, after persisting he said would go speak with his manager and after a couple more minutes returned and escorted me to an empty table and told me to wait.

After 10 minutes a Genius tech came over, asked to see the phone and I showed him side by side with my wifes 4 and he agreed that there was a difference and that this time they would exchange it. Thankfully I got a chance to compare all three side by side (4, new 4S, old 4S) and the screen was much better than the previous 4S.

The screen isn't "perfect", it is still a little yellower than the iPhone 4 and blues aren't as blue (like nav bar in settings or Safari) however but it doesn't have the washed out look of my original 4S and at full brightness is much brighter (in a good way) than the 4. Indeed off angle viewing is MUCH better compared to the 4, on the 4 it goes a muddier dark colour. I do think the contrast isn't quite there, certainly on the App name text. Some colours look better on the 4S and some on the 4.

So, so far, its better than the previous 4S and better in some ways than the 4 and not quite as good in others. No idea how the rest of the phone stacks up, I am in the progress of restoring it now 🙂

[EDIT] Note the replacement was built in the same week as the previous replacement, Week 45 despite being replaced 2 weeks ago and both start with C39.
