iPhone 4S screen tint

Update to the update:

New phone here. Perfect! C39, white screen, not yellow.

Too soon to tell whether it has other problems--but I have no reason to believe it does.

BTW, my buddy bought a phone from AT&T a few weeks after release, and it also has a white, not yellow, screen. Don't know his serial number.

iPhone4S was released yesterday (16th of Dec) here in the UAE.

Worried that the hardware would soon go out of stock, I rushed to a store nearby and bought a black 16 GB set and quickly activated it only to find later when i compared with my iphone4, that this one has a yellow, old looking display.

Now i am regretting for the mad rush I made.I simply cannot get along with the yellow washed out screen.

Any feedback on the glue yet-to-dry issue from users who purchased month's ahead ? Should I seriously take up this matter with the vendor and get myself an exchange or even a refund?

Does anybody have a link to what apple has to say on this issue?

Guys, I have my second iPhone 4S 32 GB white and the screen of this iPhone is quite good. I've been watching this thread closely and I see everybody is focusing on the screen of the iPhone but I think it is the color of the backlight and the difference in backlight tints that is causing the yellow tint. This because if you start your iPhone than it seems more yellowish than after some time with the screen on. Looks like when the device gets warmer the yellow tint is completely gone. I don't know what kind of backlight Apple uses in the iPhone but it differs per device.

Guys let me share my experience and disappointment with you. I bought my iPhone 4s on the second day after official release and when they came home and activated the phone I noticed that compared to my iPhone 4 the screen was very yellow. So the next day I took iPhone 4s back to the store Carphone Warehouse, I also took my old iPhone 4 with me to show the difference to salesmen as proof, because I wanted to exchange my IPhone 4s. And the sales guys really tried to make an idiot of me by keeping convincing me that there was no difference between two screens. Then I asked a casual customer to tell us his opinion, he looked at two iPhones and confirmed that there was plain difference in colors. So the sales guys agreed to exchange the phone and said that if a new one appears to be yellow as well I would be able to exchange it at the Apple store. And to my surprise when he came home and activated the phone it was also yellow!! The next day I decided to go directly to Apple store. There before going to the Genius Bar I went around and compared my iPhone 4 with a proper screen with all demo iPhones 4S, and neither of them had yellowish tint!! Not any single phone!! At the genius bar 4 of 5 assistants made big amazed eyes and tried to convince me that the yellow color is white and bla bla bla.. I don't really understand why all of those genius bar nerds never admit a fact of problem existence and instead try cheat on you.. I had some occasion before when I took my MacBook Pro to apple store because my battery was lasting only 2-3 hours instead of claimed 7 hours, and a "genius" guy told me that despite of the indicated 7 hours in the specification description of the laptop a battery never last more than 3-4 hours and always depend on what applications are running.

Back to my iPhone 4s story. The fifth genius assistant fed me with a bullsh*t about an glue issue and that the yellowish tint will go away by itself after some time. But I didn't buy this b*llshit as I had already been aware of the fact that the yellowish tint issue was also encountered on some iPhone 4 phones and my girlfriend had been one of those lucky ones who got iPhone 4 with yellow screen, and after one year of using it remained yellow!!

So after some unsuccessful attempts to convince me the guy agreed to exchange the phone. He gave me a new phone and I left. And guess what, my third iPhone 4S was also with yellow tint!!!! So I gave up and now trying to sell my third iPhone 4S because I cannot put up with a yellow screen. I'm going to use my old iPhone 4 until 5th one releases next year.

I got a refund for my second 4s, got another from From a shop that had stock they would not let me see it working before, it has the same yellow screen as the other two. The two salesmen both had the blue white screen as did the display model.

As for what will Apple do about it. Lookes like a repeat of the iPhone 4 signal issue to me deny the problem exits as long as possible then do nothing.

I had mentioned earlier that my 4S black 64gb iPhone had a yellow screen. I was going to return it for a refund but decided not to. For one thing my screen seemed to have a slight yellow tint that was uniform across the screen. My iPhone 4 had a screen with a blue tint. After using my 4 for one and one half years I became acustomed to the screen so it seemed "normal" to me.

I decided to compare photos taken by my 4 on both iPhones. I noticed straight away that the 4S showed much more detail in shadowed areas then the 4. I turned the screen brightness up on the 4 and down on the 4S to see if I could lose the detail on the 4S and gain it on the 4. The results were the the same. The 4S still showed more details in the photos. Mind you these photos were all taken on the 4 so I was comparing the quality of the screens and not the cameras. I also realized that the colours were more accurate on the 4S. A photo of a green blanket on my 4 looked blue and in the same photo on my 4S it was the proper green. Skin tones are also more accurate on the 4S. The whites on my 4S are also brighter then the 4. I still have a hard time accepting this because the blue/white tint just seemed so right to me.

Now that I have something to compare my iPhone 4 with I have to conclude that the colour balance on the 4S is better then the blue tinted screen that I loved on my 4.

My 3GS had the worst screen on any of my iPhones. The screen was dingy yellow and shaded at the bottom. I brought out all of my iPhones and compared them. I was surprised to find that the 3GS screen had improved. Gone was the yellow tint and the shading. The screen did not have a blue/white tint but was not yellow. I was not not imagining this or becoming acustomed to it. I had four iPhones next to each other to compare it. Whether this glue theory is correct or not the screen did clear up so maybe there is hope for everyone. Best of luck.

I just got my 4S and yes the screen has a very nice, warm tint to it.

It is warmer than my ipod touch 4 (which was cold and had a slight purplish tint) but not as warm as my Macbook (black)

Tint is an issue that will never be fixed because it's actually cause my the LED backlighting used in the screens. LEDs all vary in tint.

Also, tint preference is subjective. What you want to be looking for is a neutral, near blackbody tint which has no color shifts.

you guys were right. i was wrong. i replaced my 4s twice and both replacements had the same issue. i walked around the store and compared my phone to the rest and my phone had a yellow tint and the models have nice color to them. the manager told me that the phones on display have a different screen than the ones being manufactured and sold to the consumers... what does that mean? FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! and i told him that and he shrugged it off and said it was "with in specs" when i wanted another replacement. i was with in my 90 day warranty and it was a hardware issue and he told me that the screen isn't hardware issue. and i was denied another replacement. it's time to call in the big dogs.

the reporters would have a field day if they knew about this... on second thought...

I posted a couple weeks ago that I was happy with my 2nd iPhone 4S since it had a better screen than my first 4S.

But I just realised compared to my old iPhone 4 its still CRAP!!!

Not sure how I should handle this though, maybe I wait until they accept this is a defect before sending it back again.... hope they will.

There is an obvious problem with some iPhone 4S screens, THIS IS A FACT!! On the other hand, we have Apple denying existance of above mentioned FACT. What we should do? Conclusion: WE MUST LODGE A LAWSUIT COLLECTIVELY!!

But are we sure it's a 'problem' as in manufacturing defect as opposed to a personal problem? I have the warm tint which I hated but now I realize it's either this or a screen with a blue tint, just because I became accustomed to the blue tint didnt make it better. The yellow has grown on me and isn't obvious when not held next to an i4 screen with a very blue tint. But if it's a defect then I'm not happy and this is unacceptable. I gave up on android because of similar BS. Is there any official comment by apple? Even a simple denial? If so where would I find it?

Same here - I am getting used to it and really only notice it when I try really hard or hold it next to the "blue" iPhone 4 - which never seemed "blue" to me until I had a basis for comparison.

If it is a simple matter of hey we are using two or three different back light suppliers and there is some variation in the base color temperature and that is just how it is - luck of the draw - then I don't necessarily see this as a problem. Especially if there comes an option to tweak it via software - even a bit.

If, as you said - it is an actual defect - then no matter how accustomed I become to it - it is a problem which should be addressed. Especially if it leads to other problems later - if there are bad backlights - will we see a rash of failures in 6 months?

There will ever be a software fix. That would be like a Apple confessing, "We're sorry we put displays from seven different manfactures (all of various quality) in our iPhone and that you had no control over which one you got, but here's a little calibration setting we came up with. Good luck."

Let's see if they do not deny my comentátio now. I changed threetimes my iPhone 4 "yellow" If you continue the same. I joined a lawsuit against the operator TIM and I want an Apple iPhone with standard and not "it". All appliances sold in Brazil are so ... by TIMthree, three and has the effect of two different stores

Received two more 32GB iphone 4S's today with both having a serial of C39....... and once again, both have the yellow tint. This is starting to **** me off. It takes so long to get it shipped to my home and then I gotta turn around and send it back.
