iPhone 4S screen tint

My latest update as of today i was at axiom is that all black phones with serial number C38/39 have the yellowish tint & bad battery life compared to other phone's like my wife's which serial starts with d or a number not C.

now to my luck while i was arguing with them since they insist that white & iphone 4 are different:P a guy walked in with black 4S from etisalat & he had a perfect screen. Checking his serial number it was a D & then all of them could not say another word.

After talking with managers & bla bla what i got is that this batch is all like this & they got me another new one & it had the same issue so their solution for now is to wait for new stock to come & then we can see what we can do.

Wish me luck & i hope by then Apple would action this.

Update. I just went to mobile in Saudi Arabia and got a replacement phone because I had the no audio issue.

I had a yellow screen, squishy home button, loose power button, however they admitted that the no audio problem does indeed allow me a replacement.

I received the replacement 16 gb white i4S with serial number starting C38. To my surprise, it has a perfectly looking screen. Compared to my dad's iPhone 4S (SN: DN), it looks really bright and nice. My dad's one is definitely yellowish compared to mine. Compared to my sister's iPhone 4 , they both have a cool blue tint that's just lovely.

I'm very happy with my new phone, but I also feel bad for those who got a yellowish one. I hope apple can fix this problem by software or something. Good luck all :)

This is my second model. I exchanged the previous one . I give up. All models demoed in Carrousel apple store are yellow with luminosity at max to hide it.

While this may be very late I wanted to add my observations on my new iPhone 4S. When I got it home last Sunday (Jan 1), I was dissapointed to see a very yellow tint to the screen. I paid for an unlocked iPhone 4S so this is a very expensive phone in the US. I thought about returning it but first I came here and read through some of this thread. One poster said that it may be glue under the screen that hasn't cured/set yet. I decided to give it some time to see if this was the issue.

I'm happy to say, at least for me, the majority of the yellow tint is gone after one week. The yellow tint that I saw when I first turned the phone on was very yellow. I could see no white, just pale yellow which was very noticable compared to the blueish cool white from my iPhone 4. And when looking at the phone upright in portrait mode, looking on a slant from left to right, the yellow tint was worse than if looking right to left.

Now I see a warm white color. This is still not the same color as the iPhone 4. The whites on the 4S are much warmer than on the 4, but white is now noticably white and not yellow. I think that I like the current tint better than the cool blue tint on whites from the iPhone 4. The colors seem more accurate overall to me as well.

This won't come as any comfort to anyone who really wants the cool blue tint from the iPhone 4 but for me, I'm now satisfied that my iPhone 4S is working correctly.

Cool, I am glad to hear your story, but somehow I don't believe the yellowness has gone in anyway. In my case, my ipad two has very yellow screen. From time to time, I too realise it's less yellowie than before, but when I compare it with my friend's normal blue ipad 2 screen, I realise that my screen haven't changed a bit. In fact it made mine look even more yellowie.

I think it's just my eye is more used to the screen saturation after a long period of use and I have begun slowly adapting the yellowness and pay less attention to it. But then, this is just my experience.

Anyway, I don't think the yellow screen is a big deal anymore. I rather focus on user experience on the ipad 2 but if I have a choice to choose again i would want a screen with nice blue tint. If not, I would just wait till apple come up with a solution for it.

As I said, it is still more yellow than the iPhone 4 but in my case, the whites now look white--oriiginally it looked very yellow.

I wish I had taken a picture of the iPhone 4S when I orginally got it home but I didn't. But even side by side with my iPhone 4, the yellowish tint is much less than it was. Also, slanting the screen no longer shows much of a different tint as it originally did.

That's a good news and don't get me wrong,I am not denying your case. I am just saying I have doubt because of my ipad 2 experience. But you know what, I think we should just enjoy our device. Iife is short, we got too much things to worry about anyway. Plus the yellow screen will probably going to stay with most of us for a year or two away, then we will have option to choose again for a better spec iPhone 5 or something else, but make sure you choose wisely next time.

Apparently 3rd time was a charm for me. My previous 2 were black 32GB. My 3rd here is a white 32GB, beautiful screen, finally! I actually want to use my iPhone now. Really ***** that it's the luck of the draw. Good luck everybody!

The screen of my Canadian iPhone4sstillhas a yellowtint, badcolor, andvery lowcontrast. My cousin has bought new iPhone 4S 16Gb yesterday. This one from India and has absolutely perfect screen.

I would like to get a responce from Apple support team to solve this issue, but have no idea how. There is no Apple support in Russia. You can only use a garantee service of your mobile carrier, and only if you bought the iPhone of the authorized reseller. Authorized reseller price 29% higher, that's why I bought iPhone from other country. But iPhone is iPhone and I still hope to get a feedback from the Apple side.

Serial starts with DN though.

Unfortunately I don't live in France so I'm going to have to wait for another visit to Paris to try and get a replacement.

I have had both DN and C38 both had good screens, the DN had bad battery life and a hardware failure, the C38 for now is good, I think Apple quality control has gone down hill, but you can't pin it to a certain Factory. (DN is the Foxconn one) if you dont like what you get take it back, or make sure its checked before it leaves the shop.

Here's my story from another frustrated yellow white iPhone 4S user (C39 serial num). I've owned two of every iPhone since the original (for my wife and myself). I've had the yellow splotches glue issue in the past that have gone away over time. However, like most people, the yellow 4S is a consistent tint across the entire screen. If I use nothing but my phone for a while, my eyes adjust to it. However, once I look at my iPad2 (perfect screen), my old iPhone 4 (very cool screen) or my computer (calibrated macbook pro), my eyes reset and my phone is a nasty yellow again. I gave it two weeks and see no difference. I doubt it would change over time.

I took it to the genius bar and was told I have one attempt to replace. After that, I'm stuck with what I get. He activated the phone to let me look before I decide if I want to swap. However, in the Apple store with the bright lighting, it's very difficult to compare. I could immediately tell it was less yellow than my 4S, yet still warmer than my iPhone 4. It's another C39 serial so serial numbers are no indication. I crossed my fingers and decided to go ahead and swap (It'd be hard to go back to a pre-Siri world). In the end, I got lucky. You can definitely see a warm tint in the settings menus, but at least you don't notice it during normal usage. Before, I'd sigh every time I unlock and see the app icons. Now I'm thinking my old iPhone 4 is too cool/blue. My new phone is a good balance. The new screen definitely has less contrast though. I understand this is better for viewing shadow detail in photos. However, it's not better for reading text (which you do most of the time on an iPhone). I think most 4S's are like this. I don't know if this is a conscious change from Apple to change the gamma, or just a result of the screens used to meet the incredible demand.

I was within the 30 day return window when I swapped. I was considering returning the phone and sticking with my cool iPhone 4. Realize that when you swap, they don't give you a phone in a new box. They give you a most likely refurbished unit in one of the generic boxes they use to ship the defective phones back. I don't care about that. However, I was told I would no longer be able to return within 30 days because the serial number of my phone no longer matches the original box. Swapping means you're committing to whatever you get.

I know the folks at the genius bar are just handling this like they're told. However, when he told me about the one replacement he said "The screen is not defective. We can't just open a bunch of phones to find one that you like.". This is saying the phone is fine but I'm just being really picky. I admit I'm picky but you don't have to be so for this to be a problem. It's sad to see Apple's standard for what is acceptable lowered with the iPhone 4S. Steve Jobs would've gone on a rampage if he had my phone. I'm hoping this isn't an indication of the quality of Apple products moving forward. Paying $399 for an iPhone shouldn't feel like playing a slot machine, hoping you win. I'm just glad now I can finally enjoy my phone.

This is why I returned my iPhone 4S and decided to wait until the issue is officially resolved or a workaround is introduced (like an iOS color temp utility). It was not worth the time and trouble to replace units until it was possible to find another iPhone 4S with good screen color consistent with the 3G, 3GS, and iPad we already have. The iPhone 4S screen color issue is particularly disappointing if you also use an iPad on a daily basis and can easily compare them side by side. My wife was lucky to find an iPhone 4S with a perfect screen on the first try. It is unlikely that serial numbers by themselves are a good indicator though; the serial numbers need to be cross-referenced with batches of LCD panels from various suppliers. This would explain the variation within serial number ranges and from the same final assembly plant. Hopefully a resolution will be identified soon or at least before the iPhone 5 is released.

To all Iphone users, buy white, they seem to have a better screen compared to black most of the times.

Surprisingly & sadly Apple really went down on quality with iphone 4 S. It is not related to serial number & not even color however from my own experience white is better in terms of luck:p.

To share with you all my latest experience. I really could not tolerate my yellow screen, it is so frustrating especially that my wife's white 4S screen looks so nice so I sold my black iphone 4S cause we don't have refund or return policy in UAE. Thus for a 2 week old barely used phone I lost 150 $ from the 750$ i paid.

Now I went & bought another one which is white. Now Thank God I have a perfect screen but guess what:P

My wife's screen that was excellent compared to my yellow tint now looks not so cool next to the one I bought.

Now to me a guy who became an apple fan after Iphone 4, I totally lost it with 4S. No more apple products because it does not make sense for a big company like Apple to display this randomness in manfucaturing what is supposed to be a very very expensive phone. I can buy a laptop for what its worth.

Advice for now: try your luck with the white, seems better than black with 4S. Guys with Iphone 4, it is really not worth it the upgrade. As for the future i am never buying a product just released, I will take my time cause loosing money, time, & feeling bad is not what I expect when investing 750$ of my hardly earned money.

What a shame Apple what a **** shame.

Just ordered my 3rd white 32G unlocked, the first one was very yellowish with noticable lower contrast, the second one was better but also has a yellowish screen though it's better than the first one. I don't think there is any relation to the serial number, nor black vs white. Does not matter what model you get, it solely depends on luck. Just for those who still thinks this will help, both of my 2 white 32G unlocked have serial # start with C39.

Just share some may-be-good news, my friend did a replace in LA while he's there for vacation, and he got a perfect screen right off the bat, 1 shot, done! and he told me they don't seem to have a major bad screen stock in the southern california. Since my 3rd ordered placed yesterday already shipped out from LA, I have a high hope this time getter a good screen. I will update when it arrives tomorrow 🙂
