Ringtones not Syncing after upgrade to iOS5

Like many other iPhone 4 users my family upgraded our software to iOS5 on Wednesday evening. After upgrading we noticed that not all of the ringtones we had purchased from the iTunes store were available on the phone after the upgrade.

So I went into iTunes and confirmed that the ringtones had been selected to sync. Synced the phone and again, some ringtones do not sync and some do.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in Advance.

Connect to itunes

Click on device

click on ringtones and un-check the box and sync

after sync is completed recheck the box and pic which ringtones you want and click sync

should be good from there.

also take a look in the sounds as it does not put them in a nice little box for you any more it adds them to all the others

To fix it I unchecked syncing ringtones in Itunes and synced my phone. I then check the option to sync ringtons in Itunes and synced my phone again. After I did that I could see my ringtones.

Not only that but i think aslo that if they are over 30 sec long they will not sync to your phone somethinga about a restriction added to the length of the files

Same here only when I click on my iPhone 4 (regular) in iTunes 10.5, there is no Ringtone category to check and uncheck for sync. I've tried turning it on and off and syncing from the preferences but no luck.

Tried above trick but the Ringtones category does not appear to check and uncheck.

Ringtones also appear in gray under the iPhone icon in iTunes but cannot be found in the Sound preferences - very weird.

I unchecked in the box in the Ringtones page for the device and then synced and then checked it again. Worked great! My special tones were at the top of the list. Perhaps Apple would be able to address this for the next release of iOS 5. Seems like folks would like to keep their ringtones for the upgraded OS without having to jump through some pretty cryptic hoops. Overall nice job on OS 5!

Unchecking and checking did not work for me. The ringtones are in listed but are grayed out beneath the iPhone icon on the left column in iTunes 10.5.

In the upper center (when the iPhone is selected) where it says Summary Info Apps, etc. Ringtones does not appear.

I can drag music files (.mp3, .m4a, etc.) to the iPhone icon and play it from the iPhone but no custom ringtones appear in the Sound settings.

Oh Synchro, I first read your post as aren't listed, but you said are listed. Mine now show up in the sound settings on my phone too. I wonder why?? I used the MakeTones free app (because I don't know how to do it any other way) and followed their rather confusing directions to get my ringtones into my library and then onto my phone. At first, I didn't even have the Ringtones either on the iTunes left hand sidebar or on my Device menu. When I did the Edit from the iTunes menu and then Preferences and then checked Ringtones, I then had both the Ringtones on the left sidebar and on the Device menu. Then I dragged the ringtones I made on MakeTones onto the itunes Ringtones window and synced and then the ringtones were on my phone. (I may have also checked the Sync Ringtones on the Device Ringtones menu before I synced as someone mentioned above)

Whew!!
