Ringtones not Syncing after upgrade to iOS5

Like many other iPhone 4 users my family upgraded our software to iOS5 on Wednesday evening. After upgrading we noticed that not all of the ringtones we had purchased from the iTunes store were available on the phone after the upgrade.

So I went into iTunes and confirmed that the ringtones had been selected to sync. Synced the phone and again, some ringtones do not sync and some do.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in Advance.

Connect to itunes

Click on device

click on ringtones and un-check the box and sync

after sync is completed recheck the box and pic which ringtones you want and click sync

should be good from there.

also take a look in the sounds as it does not put them in a nice little box for you any more it adds them to all the others

Hi Wayne. I must have something special going on here. The box has always been checked. I've unchecked it and synced and checked it and synced again. Still unable to get the correct ringtone. One of the many gremlins that have been unleashed with OS5 (phone issues, Skype issues, iPhoto library erased, etc.). No wonder my wife won't let me near her computer to download the upgrade. I thank you for your help. I think I'm going to have to schedule some time with an Mac guru to get all this resolved.

At one time my wife and I shared the same Macbook Pro. We had two separate accounts on it. I just purchased a new Macbook Pro and transferred my account from my old computer to the new one. That could be the problem. I purchased "one to one" when I bought the new computer. It's time to put the genuis' to work. Again, thanks for all of your help.

I finally figured it out...in the library..the ringtones tab was not showing up so I had to go into prefrences and check that box then when I went in to the ringtones under the libray they all had exclamation points next to them, guess when the new software was downloaded the files didn't convert to the right format or something, so I just deleted them and redownloaded them from the site I got them at (free btw) and now it works.

Wayne, I'm not sure, but I think it may have been a single contact problem. I was testing the ringtone by calling my phone from my wife's iPhone. As you know, I couldn't get it to work. I finally, deleted her from my contact list and reentered with her ringtone and of course it worked. I decided I'd just be OK without custom ringtones for the rest of my contacts. However, my daughter called the other day and lo and behold, it was her ringtone I heard. So bottom line, I'm not sure what the final solution was but I'm happy all appears to be in order. Again, thanks for all of your help and patience.

I tried the suggestion by thereeds2004 (see top post by GreyWullf) and it didn't work in my situation. Tones created by me were being synced but the couple that I purchased weren't being synced to my iPhone 4S.

This is what worked for me:

  1. In iTunes, drag the tones that weren't syncing out of iTunes and onto your desktop (I chose this location since it's easy to find).
  2. In iTunes, delete the tones that weren't syncing and move to trash. (Make sure the tones are no longer in the Tones iTunes Source list.)
  3. Drag back the tones that are on your desktop back onto iTunes and check that they are in the Tones iTunes Source list.
  4. Sync All/Selected Tones to your iOS device. Check the Ringtones on your iPhone to make sure they're there.

Hope this works for others as well.
