Sound issues using FaceTime on Mac!!

I was using FaceTime perfectly fine. And then out of no where, sound just stopped working. This happened before and then suddenly started working again. I can hear the other person just fine but they can't hear me. I've checked the 'video' option making sure internal speakers are selected. And then systems>preferences>sound, i made sure the input and output sound were not muted. I've restarted computer a few times too. Please help!!!

It's not Lion. It's a software issue involved in regulating the audio between the Mac and the iPad. The most common complaint seems to be between a Mac and an iPhone or iPad. I'm sure the software is trying to keep the conversation audio from feeding back in a loop, and adjusting the volume, but it's overcompensating to the point where one person's audio drops out completely.

So Apple:

I have been a loyal customer since 1991. I have enjoyed nearly every product. I love - LOVE Facetime.

But the audio dropout problem STINKS. PLEASE FIX IT.

Seriously, there should be an easy software fix to prevent the auto-volume control from dropping one party's sound so low that it is inaudible. You can do SIRI for crying out loud, surely you can FIX THIS.

Thank you!

Also having the same problem with brand new MacBook Pro. Facetime works fine, then audio goes out and I can't hear the caller. They can hear me, though. I have OSX 10.8.1, and everything is up to date. Please help Apple because since upgrading, iMessage won't allow me to use AIM properly which I prefer because you can share computer screens.

I am having the same issue. After a few minutes of using Facetime on my MacBook Pro the sound fails. I can hear them but they can't hear me. It's very frustrating because I constantly use Facetime. Now I have to find another source to video chat. MacBook Pro was my first purchase of the apple notebook and I'm beginning to regret the purchase. Should've stuck with what I new, PC. Now my hubby and I are debating to not even upgrade our iphones to the new iphone 5. I hope Apple can do the right thing, stand by their product and fix this issue.

I have struggled with this ever since I started using FaceTime. I am on the "losing" end. I stop receiving the audio. They can hear me on the other end, but I can no longer hear them. I have to continuously hang up and call again. There will be a period of time when I don't have the problem, but eventually, it comes back. Would love to know the fix.

I've just had the same problem with me not being heard at the other end. This is the first time for a long time but we couldn't resolve it by quitting and restarting as we have done in the past. I feel sure it's something to do with my volume settings, as previously suggested by someone else. It's always me on iMac not being heard - I've never had a problem with not hearing my callers on iPads. Can't believe Apple haven't resolved this issue after more than one year since jennhawaii started this discussion. I think I'll have to download Skype!!

Most annoying that this problem still continues.. Facetime also worked perfectly on my machine until I upgraded to Mountain Lion, now during calls I can hear them but they cant hear me.. Skype works still so its definitely not my microphone or speakers. Sort it out Apple! I would prefur to use facetime & imessage between friends & their iphones & ipads through my computer if it was all more stable.
