GPS Not Working in iOS5

Ever since i updated to iOS 5, navigation apps like Sygic and Nagignon are reporting that they are unable to get GPS signal. These apps were working just fine before the update.

Even other apps like Foursquare and Gowalla are completely off ... the only thing that seems to be working is Maps but its not able to identify current location correctly.

Its rather frustrating to see paid apps especially Sygic not working ...

Yesterday i updated to iOS 5.1....bummer...didn't work unfortunately....still on 3GS with baseband 05.16.05....strange part is....my wife also has a 3GS with baseband 05.16.05....and her GPS works like a charm!

Absolutely frustrating that Apple won't even comment on the problem. Perhaps they know this problem occurs, but they don't know a sollution, so that's why thet won't make it global???

I seems there isn't any pattern it the problem...some 3GS have it, some 4 have it, some 4S have it....some with the same baseband have the problem and the other one not.. (like me and mij myfe) We still don't know what makes this problem occur.....very strange!!!

Hi everyone,
The reason of the strongest is always the best ... [Jean de la Fontaine]
I dug and dug forums ... no effective solution, yet the problem is known, it is OBVIOUS!
It's easy to seems clever blackening paper and fill pages of advertising ... publish information on IOS 6, 7, 12 and Ipad 15 ... but to say there is a problem NOW for over six months which nobody cares, it's extremely low seller. But where is Apple and where are all those specialized forums?
Transparency ... brings confidence, mine is lost, next time I'll think about Z6PO ! Perhaps better, can not be worse, for GPS protocol... wifi,...
My wife still laughting about my useless toy!

Tomorrow can not be worse ... hope it will be better ! It's a little bit expensive only for a phone ;-))) !

La transparence... amène la confiance, mine is lost, next time i'll think about Z6PO ! Perhaps better, but can't be worse, for GPS protocol...

Bonne soirée,

Demain ne peut pas être pire... espérons alors qu'il soit meilleur !

Same problem here.

Called support and they booked an appointment for an Apple store. I took my iPhone to the Apple store, showed evidence of GPS not woking with Google maps (the default app). I showed screen shots of:

-) iPhone showing very low accuracy in xy position of GPS,

-) position shifting miles away within minutes (with phone being at rest in same place).

-) loosing of carrier (Searching, no service and could not activate cellular data network)

They offered to replace phone (as courtesy and stating they did not believe it would solve the problem) ...

and at the end they refused to replace it because it was bought in another country !

Did not offer option to ship it ...

Not being able to make calls that last on average more than 5 minutes and use it as navigation, my iPhone will sit in a drawer and will be replaced by Samsung Galaxy S II, ugly interface, hard or no sync, but the most important things phone and navigation work!

It is incredible that a such a closed phone and OS combination, things that should make it trouble free can work so bad that you prefer an ugly open phone ... that works!

signed: unhappy owner of iPhone 4S 64GB (sigh lots of money wasted) with iOS 5.1 ...

and stiil wondering what damage could we cause Apple if we downgraded our phones to 5.0 ! But it seems Apple does not want us to do that.

after many verification I've discovered that the problem wasn't related to software upgrade.

Inside the phone the gps antenna was disconnected from the logical board, so the gps was unable to fix location.

I've opened the phone and plung in the antenna connector to the logical board of the phone (see ifix guide).

problem solved, but still disappointed.

Update on my previous post. About a month ago TomTom released an update to their app and now it works fine. I haven't checked out the other troublesome apps, I'm just glad that the satnav works again.

My guess is that something inside iOS5.1 disables some GPS apps requiring a rewrite. I'm glad I'm now in the clear, but I was pretty ****** off for a while not least because the TomTom app cost £40.
