Yes you are right, why would anyone install iOS5 without compatibility with a significant number of Windows XP users... It is useless without iCloud which is one of the main features of iOS5!!! 😮

It's absurd. I was a happy paying customer for MobileMe. I am a HUGE fan of Apple. I have 5 employees that I have been paying for MobileMe for. We all updated our phones, software on iPads, etc. We all have to use PCs at work. None can sync now without updating to Windows7 which is anything but an easy upgrade. Not a smart move. It wouldn't have been harmful for Apple to be accomodating to the millions of people worldwide that are still using XP.

I agree with you completely. There is a huge community of Windows users who have not switched to Vista or 7 and don't want to. I am one of them. I have never been a MobileMe user, but the iCloud concept attracted me. I suspect there are plenty of other XPites who would adopt iCloud if it were possible. This is a large market that Apple should not ignore.

I managed to install the control panel on XP...seems to work great.

The english is pretty bad at this site, but basically what you do is:

Use 7-zip or Winrar to open the icloudsetup.exe file. Extract the contents to its own folder.

Use the Orca msi editor to open the icloud.msi file (this is the 32-bit version - there is also a icloud64.msi 64 bit version =most people will use the 32 bit version)

Look for the Launch Condition section on the left. Click on it and then change the wording on the right side from VersionNT> = 600 to VersionNT> = 200 .

Save and then run the icloud.msi file.

This seems to work fine, but you can't yet expect future updates to be available or not to cause bugs if it was never intended for XP in the first place.

Yep, I can confirm this hack works fine, giving you synced access to Contacts, Calenders, Reminders and Bookmarks. It also can be used to set up your me.com mail.

i downloaded your 32 bit version and when i hit install it simply says "the installer encountered errors before iCloud Control Panel could be configured." i'm running the latest version of XP, iTunes, and everything else...any thoughts?

Maybe it needs to be in the folder with the other stuff that was extracted. I didn't have any problem installing it on my windows xp machine but I tried on another xp computer and I got the error code too. I'll post back after I try that.

yup that was it. Here is a link to all of the files. Download them and put them all in a folder and then chose the iCloud.msi or iCloud64.msi and it will work.

DOOOHHHHH!!!! I didn't realize it only syncs with Outlook 2007. I am still on 2003, I am poor. Wonder what I can find out there from FOSS which is like Microsoft Outlook. Thunderbird? Maybe there is a way to sync it somehow with my Gmail online? Who knows, just want to make sure I have my 2,000+ contacts backup'd up in multiple places as a fail safe. Been collecting em since I got a Palm Pilot back in 1997!! Everything is still with me, LOL. (It was a biiiatt**** going from Palm Sync to Outlook let me tell you, then into iPhone BUT well worth it.)

I attempted this procedure on a computer with XP SP 3. After completing all steps and running the modified iCloud.msi, I receive an error "The system cannot open the device or specified file." Any ideas on how to avoid this? I have run through the entire thing from start to finish a few times with the same result. But what I was truly interested in was photos and photostream, so it sounds like I am wasting my time.
