iOS5 bugs (iPod Touch 4G)

iPod Touch 4G updated to iOS 5. Cover Flow is very slow and laggy, Youtube and Facebook (already updated for iOS 5) are laggy too. But most of all the homescreen sometimes freezes for a few seconds after unlocking the display. Finally the device is in general slower than before (iOS 4.3.5).

Is someone experiencing the same issues?

Please help .

Amen my Canadian brother,

If you read any of my past posts on this discussion, I suggest that you don't hold your breath on hearing back from Apple. A tech rep actually admitted to me that Apple doesn't even monitor these posts. What a progressive company! It is starting to make me yearn for those "progressive" geniuses at that little company called Microsoft. Yeah, I too am predicting dire conscequences if they are selling these Touches for XMas. I basically have 3G and 4G iPod Touches that have been hobbled by this grand iOS 5 upgrade. They are borderline useless at this point. Thanks a lot Apple; although, I fear that no one is listening to us! It makes you wonder if this fiasco is the start of a long downhill slide. Has Jobless Apple just jumped the shark?

Have recently loaded iOS 5 onto my Ipod Touch 4G - what a palaver! - I can fully empathise with the description elsewhere that it did some "scary" things, as well as taking hours.😠 Ever since, it has been running rather slowly, however, I have just tried the reset technique advocated here and it seems to have settled it down a lot 🙂 - seems to be running more like it should and I can now get it to connect to the wi-fi again, however, as many have said it seems to be very heavy on the battery.

ℹBefore doing the reset, I closed all the apps running in the background first - double tap the "Home" button, press & hold any app to get the minus symbol ➖ & then double tap each app to close it fully.

I've also had some problems since the update to iOS 5. Ever since the update my home screen button was starting to get unresponsive and slow. Just today it started not working at all . I've restored, restarted, and erased some memory just to see if it could fix itself and work . Apparently I've looked and I've had no luck . So I'm going to the Apple Store tomorrow to see what's wrong with it. Another problem is apps crash right when I open them or right in the middle of when I'm doing something with them. It's annoying and very hard to deal with. Apple needs to fix this issue soon :/

Since updating my iTouch 4G 64GB to iOS5, the Genres search function is dropping albums. When I look at the music on my iPod while synced, it shows the proper Genres, but when I use Genre to search, it only shows a few of the albums. Now I have to search by Albums, which is a big pain. Anyone else experience loss of Genre search capability since upgrading to iOS5?

I want to join the growing multitude of people who are now disappointed with ios5 and Apple. It appears that Apple's search for excellence died with Steve Jobs' death.

My wife was wise to not allow me to update her iphone4 to ios5. Now my itouch 4g on ios5 is glitchy and slower than it used to be.

Let's all go to social media and express our dissatisfaction there and maybe Apple will hear us.

ditto to issues with the ios5. I have a 4th gen 32gb. yesterday I had nike+ lock up..I'm guessing this is because it plays music through it? I ended the workout, music stopped and it was done...it got all sketchy with some random notices popping up.....about a 1/2 hour later it finally freed up. Facebook has given me a bunch of issues. overall it is very slow. I don't use all that extra stuff (ie icloud, locations, etc.)

I really LOVE the messaging, BUT sometimes it wont work unless I send a picture with the text?! weird.

iPod Touch 3rd gen 64 GB. Upgraded to iOS 5 last week and since then, I can't get music to sync beyond about 10% of tracks that are selected. I use it mainly for music & apps, and have the 128 kbps option checked (music on my drive is a mix of 192k and higher mp3 and Apple Lossless). There are 11,250 tracks reported by iTunes that should get copied in a sync.

Here is what I have tried:

  • Upgrade to iOS 5 didn't actually seem to work first; iTunes wouldn't do anything until I did a restore. Figured that would go back to iOS 4.x and was surprised that it was then on iOS 5.
  • Basic sync at first did nothing.
  • Tried another restore, and maybe 100-200 tracks did sync but that was it.
  • Next tried the "DFU mode reset" suggested in another post but no improvement.
  • Then bit the bullet and initialized it as a new iPod. This helped to the extent that it then copied about 15% instead of 1% of tracks, but still nowhere near all.

Other observations:

  • iTunes reports that the iPod has 54.6 GB used for Audio, but when I look at the iPod itself, Settings -> General -> Usage -> Music reports only 5 GB of storage used.
  • All tracks that should have gotten copied seem to be actually listed on the iPod, but the ones that didn't actually get copied are grayed out.
  • Tracks have been copied in alphabetical order by artist. I can see exactly where the copy stopped; Black Sabbath has a few tracks in gray, and then Blind Faith and any later artist is all gray.

Well, at the very very least I don't feel alone in my disgust and dissapointment over this terrible upgrade. I had to restore my iPOD to factory settings and it still won't sync my music or anything else. Out of over 8,700 songs I have about 40 that will sync, the rest are showing on my iPOD but are grayed out so I can't listen to them. The connection keeps timing out so the sync can not complete. This is so frustrating that I can't listen to my music or anything. Is there nothing that can be done until Apple sends out another update?

I've been syncing again and again over the last couple of days, and iTunes is copying more music over sometimes, though it's inconsistent and unpredictable. Some syncs have copied nothing at all, some have copied several hundred tracks. Storage used for music has gone from 5 to 13 GBs, so at least that's progress, if slow.

I talked with an Apple support rep for a while today, even though I have no official support. I told him that I mainly wanted to make sure that somehow Apple knows that there are lots of people reporting sync issues with iOS 5. When I described what I've experienced and tried, he said the one troubleshooting step left that he knew to try is to uninstall/reinstall iTunes. (See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 for instructions for a full removal.)

Didn't really expect it to make a difference, and after completing my first sync post-reinstall, that did copy 600+ tracks (out of about 8500 remaining that needed copying from the original 11250). But it still stoped far short, so doesn't seem to have made a discernible difference.

I think it would help for as many people as possible to call Apple and complain about this. The main Apple Care line at 800-275-2273 is the number I called.
