iOS5 bugs (iPod Touch 4G)

iPod Touch 4G updated to iOS 5. Cover Flow is very slow and laggy, Youtube and Facebook (already updated for iOS 5) are laggy too. But most of all the homescreen sometimes freezes for a few seconds after unlocking the display. Finally the device is in general slower than before (iOS 4.3.5).

Is someone experiencing the same issues?

Please help .

I've tried everything like restoring, removing apps and my ipod 4 is still buggy and slow.

Given that this device is a touch screen, having to "touch" "touch" "carefullly touch" wait, wait, "touch" to do a simple thing like switch to a different track is just annoying.

I wouldn't mind so much if Apple offered an easy way to head back to IOS 4 but they don't.

If this isn't fixed too soon, I'll probably throw my ipod touch away and get something else.

Waiting 5 seconds for keyboard to repond all the time is unbelievably frustrating IOS 5 has ruined the snappy experience of an IPOD touch. Tried disabling everything, but what is the point? There is a major memory leak going on, especially with SAFARI. Apple needs to fix it soon or I am throwing this away.

Apple please fix or you lost me and many others like me.

I can't add music to mine. The music has the correct artist/song info in iTunes but It shows all 'unknowns' in the iPod itself. It won't update. I loaded some TV shows that, of course, loaded as movies, so I changed them to TV shows and they disappear. Yes, I put the TV show name. I had to change them back to movies so I could watch them. Haven't found a workaround for music yet. Since it's a music device it's kind of annoying to not be able to load any actual music!!!!

And like everyone else says, the touchscreen is off now.

I'm having the same issues in this thread, along with my home button being completely spotty. I took it in 2 days ago, and they gave me a new iPod on the spot. Said my software was corrupt, which led to a defective battery. The home button was especially "clicky" as well.

The new iPod they gave me came with a very nice home button that I've had zero problems with, and iOS4. Thank god for that, as I couldn't stand the lagginess. Since my Android phones handles notifications way better than iOS, I don't care to have notifications on my iPod.

Until the responses in this thread start to look more positive with regard to updates, I'm sticking with iOS4. Stable + fast > new & shiny.

Throw it my way. My grand-daughter keeps eyeing mine.

I just updated mine to iOS 5.0.1 and I'm abit impressed that it is faster than iOS4, although I still have some problems:

- Battery life is still bad. I usually have 10-15 hours of pure music playback but now it never even reaches 5 hours. All of other apps are not running.

- It gets hot after 30minutes-1 hour of music playback. This never happened when I am using iOS4.

- I can edit the songs in iTunes, although the artist name never showed up below the title. I tried using other music apps like eQU and it still has the same problem.

- When swiping the screen to spotlight, it lags a bit then it goes back OK. Kinda similar problem with other old(?) Android devices.

I don't really use the other features since I mainly use this for playing music. I also don't expect Apple to help us with this issue "as soon as possible" since I confirmed with my friend/s who work/s at Apple Technical Support and/or iTunes store.

For the most part my IPOD Touch 4G is fine. My only problem is that most of my music won't play. Music added to iTunes after the update works fine, however the rest doesn't. I really don't want to redownload all 670+ files again. None of the preposed solutions have worked. I'm gonna call Apple tomorrow. If they can't fix it I'm getting a refund and buying a Zune. AND I WILL NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING LESS THAN A FULL REFUND.

It seems I managed to solve the freezes of the homescreen problem. It's a bit annoying but It seems it worked (I'll wait 24 hours before considering it for sure). I have restored the device from iTunes and after the device reboot I set it as a "New iPod" without restoring it from a previous backup. Then I simply manually reinstalled all the apps (about 200), music and so on(obviously I had saved many screens of the iPod apps, notes ... before restoring). I didn't manage to solve the Coverflow issue but I don't mind. Now my iPod is back (I hope). I will keep you updated.

'Even after updation to iOS 5.0.1 I haven't seen any improvement. The homescreen of my 4G iPOD Touch (8Gbyte Version) still freezes for 1-3 sec after unlocking the display.

Anyone else still having this issue with iOS 5.0.1?

Hope this will be fixed with an upcoming Update.'

Hi, I might be able to solve your problem. I went to the Apple Shop in Birmingham and booked an appointment. After speaking to one of the Apple Guru's at the Genius Bar they told me my Ipod Touch 4G (8GB) could have a virus in one of the apps as it kept freezing on the home screen every now and again when i was connected to the internet my apps kept freezing and exiting themselves. He told me to go on itunes on my computer and backup all my apps and music to a memory stick so it would not be found on the computer and then wipe everything from itunes. I did this and restored it like he said but i clicked 'Don't back up'. Also i clicked don't install icloud even though it would do it anyway, he said if i do it this way it will preserve my battery life for longer. After it restored my ipod touch i turned it on whilst still plugged into my computer and put my music and photos on etc. I then didn't put any apps on it. I unplugged it from the computer after renaming it and went on the app store and all the apps i had before were there and i didn't have to buy them again, It just said 'install'. After that i installed all the apps again but from the app store on my ipod, it had no viruses and my ipod touch worked successfully on iOS 5.0.1. AND DID NOT FREEZE AT ALL. My apps which had previously frozen had worked on internet as well and my home screen and lock screen and everything didn't freeze. He said as well to stop viruses spreading and to make battery life last longer, press the buttuon on the bottom of my ipid twice to see all the apps that are open and are taking away battery power. I held down on them until a no entry sign wiggled on them and tapped them one by one until they all disappeared and then clicked the button again. They were still on my home screen except they weren't taking battery power.

I recommend that you do the restoring method i described to see if it fixes your problem,

Hi All,

Been having the same issues as many in this post, found out 1 way that stops the games I am trying to play from crashing. Turn on flight mode which turns of wifi and as you would expect this is no good for other apps/games that require wifi etc. just thought I would throw this inas we are no futher forward on a fix or even an acknowledgement from apple that there is an issue.

Before trying thje flight mode I turned off icloud, killed all open apps and did a full reset which worked once but again the problem returns.

Cheers

Two days ago the freezes issue reappeared so I Was giving up when I found the restore menu in settings>general at the bottom of the page.. So I tried the net settings restore and it didn't work then I tried the settings restore (without resto ring the data) and it seems it worked ...this kind of restoring doesn't reset email, iCloud, notifications settings (at least it didn't in my case) I hope this is THE solution ... Please keep me updated
