Hi guys,
I'm having an odd issue. I just bought three ringtones direct on my iPhone 4S from the iTunes 'Tones' section, and when I set them as ringtones and preview them on the phone they sound really crappy. When I previewed them in the 'Tones' section and streamed them the sound was full and clear. Any ideas?

Thanks for getting back Gabrielle, sadly they weren't free. They were 99p each, official tracks from iTunes Tones, Dollar, Paradise and Louder. They sounded really clear when I previewed them, then after downloading them it seems the quality dropped significantly, so much so that I wouldn't want to use them as ringtones because they just sond annoying.
I expect these sick apple people find a resolution for the same very soon. I am very much annoyed with this strange SMS tone which gets rectified if I restrat the device but comes back after a day or 2. This IOS 5 is full of bugs. Also noe in the Itunes we cannot update Music info like Album, Artists, Album artists etc. Its does gets updated in the ITunes but not in the Phone. Common APPLE we need an updated with solutions to these P1 bugs.
I've installed the next version of iOS 5.0.1 (beta) and can confirm that it doesn't address the issue. This isn't final release so I wouldn't give up but even the stock apple tones sound bad as ringtones in this release. Confused :/
I'm having the same problem with my iPhone 4S - these are ringtones I'm buying and downloading from iTunes. They sound fine in the preview, and terrible once I set it as a ring tone (tinny, no bass, distortion). Clearly a software bug.
Same problem here, everything as described previously. Except for the fact that after a restore (suggested by the Apple Support) I can't even use these custom sounds for text messages as before.
Any chance for a fix in 5.0.2? Would be nice, because I'm disappointed a bit.
I have the same problem. The quality sounds better when it is set as a text tone. -Iphone 4s

I have the same problem on my iPhone 4.
As text tones, my files sound gorgeous, but when set as ringtones, they sound more like AM radio quality crud. Just awful.
I was very frustrated to come to the forums and find that there's no fix or announced plans for a fix... I can't imagine why they'd WANT our phones to sound like garbage...
Sad.
I wonder if someone has the 5.0.2 beta and can share if it's fixed or not.
Actually iOS 5.1 Beta 3 is out, so I hope that the final version will be out in a week or two.
Is the bug fixed in that update?
No word about it yet. Tomorrow I'll visit a service point and hopefully will know more about this after a few days...

My phone has been replaced by Apple under warranty due to some network problems. But it still sounds like my phones 10 years ago... It's hard to stay calm, I'm disappointed and very upset. Maybe iOS 5.1... Maybe.
Wow, new phone and all and it still gives you a lower quality ringtone than textone? How can there be such a bug like this...
