iPhone 4 upgraded to iOS5, now Bose SoundDock not working

I upgraded to iOS5 on my iPhone 4, and now it does not work with my Bose SoundDock. Does anyone have any ideas what caused this? I went to best buy and it works on other docking products. I'm hoping it's a bug, but if other people have this issue (or they upgraded and it's working fine) please comment.

thanks!

I am using the 4s and have just got the SoundDock 2 today. At first it doesn't seems to work but managed to get it working after a number of remove and insert. It seems i have to make sure the phone seats slightly forward. If i let it rest even slighly angle towards the back, it wont' work or only one side of the speaker working.

Although I managed to get it to talk to the dock, the sound doesn't seems to be as good as when I was at the shop using there ipod for the demo. Seems kind of lack of bass and sound abit mono to me...

I will find a cable and try it with the Aux port to see if it sound the same or different.

After the recommended "upgrade" to iOS5 on my iPhone 4, my Bose Sounddock 2 is useless as well. I called Apple support and they say they haven't heard any similar complaints. I asked if anyone monitors the apple support message boards and he said he didn't know. His advice was to contact Bose and find out if there is a way to upgrade the sounddock. Not pleased at all. This is ridiculous. The Bose worked great before iOS5. Now it is an expensive, useless device.

If anyone gets a better answer than I did please share. Thanks for passing the buck Apple.

my iphone 4 with ios 5 on bose portable sound dock sometimes works sometimes not. It seems to be indipendent by the connection. Furthermore sometimes it doesn't work immediatly after connecting but starts working after a few minutes. No problem about charging the iphone. The warning message "this device doesn'work..." sometimes appears, but this issue is reported on Bose's official site and should affect devices built up to 2009 when used with last iphone models. Of course i'm sure that my sound dock is ok (no problems with my ipod classic)

I will add my voice to the mix and maybe help with the troubleshooting. I am experiencing a number of scenarios between two "dock" devices and two different Apple devices. I have a Sony iHome ( i think that is the name) at work and a Bose Sound Dock at home. I have a iPhone 4 and a iPod Touch recent version with camera etc. Both Apple devices worked flawlessly with both playback docks prior to my updating to iOS 5 (music and charging). I don't think I even was warned as others have been about compatability issues.

After iOS 5 I the status is as follows:

Sony iHome dock:- Niether the iPhone nor the Touch will playback music. They both however will charge when connected. Interestingly with the iPhone if I tip the angle while it is seated with the connector on the dock - I can get it to intermittently playback through the speakers as it should. This would have normally told me that there was an issue with the connection but the fact that it all happened at once and is happening on other docks is too bizzarre to be explained away that easily.

Bose Sounddock:

iPhone iOS 5.0 seems to work well - charges and plays back. iPod Touch however played for a while - then stopped working, then started, then now has stopped all together. I have updated the Touch in hopes that I would have the success that others have had but it has not helped. Still no playback - however it does now register as being able to charge when in the dock.

Also i have connected to the audio input jack and both devices playback fine through that.

So while I am no expert, my testing seems to indicate that something in the recent updates has caused the playback through the bottome port to become very undependable if it works at all.

I will try to reset and restore to factor default - (hopefully an old OS) on my ipod touch and see what happens.

I will report back. In the mean time I look forward to hearing what tricks others have tried.

Thanks ,

Scott

Just re-reading the posts and wanted to add a comment to your observation that echos what I have said below. I too found that for at least my Sony system adjust the angle that the device is seated at allows for playback to occure. But this is extreemely tempermental and a small window for adjustment. And it is NOT an issue with dirt or a broken sound dock as it worked on morning and then not the next. The dock did not move. Also the device is properly seated and does not play - if I tilt it to a 45 degree angle so that it is almos off the connector tab - it sometimes starts playing through the speakers again.

So in short I am experiencing something similar to what you are describing, which would normally be encouraging except I fail to see how how the angle of the device can fix what I am certain is a software/iOS issue.

Update:

Good news and bad news. I did a factory reset of the iPod and set it up as a new iPod as opposed to restoring from back up. The newest iOS seemed to redownload and install. No luck when I dopped it back into the Bose dock.

I then took off the case - which is a very thin one, just to see if dropping it down onto the "tab" a little deeper would make a difference. And now it seems to be playing fine. I have taken it on and off a few times and skipped around. So which of the two variables that have changed fixed it I am not sure. Still seems to be very tempermental.

I will see what happens when I get to work to try on the Sony dock.

Hi

I have the same problem.

I contacted Bose support, they were so kind and we did all possible testing, but nothing works.

I tested my Bose V25 with a normal iPod and it works normally, the problem is the software upgrading of my iPhone 4 to iOS5.

Apple please help us !!! ...... to correct this problem with the iOS5 software for iPhone 4.

Thanks in advance.
