Here is how you can test your code.

Basically you are just programing the button to dail any number you want. It does not have to be a VM number.

Enter your code using a different (but valid) phone number.

See if it accepts the code and dials the new phone number when you press the VM button.

You can use the same code to change it back to your VM number if it works.

I do not think that it will work though.

@Subarudriver

Did you try this test yet?

@ST666

>Question- when you dial 4747919191 does your voicemail come up?

No, either I have to dial 47919191if I'm in my country, or I've have to dial +4747919191 if I'm abroad (also works then I'm in my country, so this is what I want to use). The + is used to tell the phone which country the number is for. The +1 you use is for the US. +47 is the countrycode for Norway.

With *5005*68*+47919191* all I get is a message stating that "the number you have dialed is not in use". If the number was recocnized as a valid code I don't think it would actually try to dial it.

With **5005*68*+47919191# the screen went blank for a few seconds, then returnes to the dial screen. It did not try to dial the number suggesting that it was recognized as a code. But voicemail still does not work (have waited a few minutes as well as toggling flight mode).

Hi everyone--I'm a new 4S owner with T-Mobile. My voicemail was working fine till this afternoon, then "cannot connect" showed up on pressing the VM icon in Phone.

Their level 1 tech support told me to enter **5005*86+1 and my 10-digit number followed by #. Didn't work. I took someone's advice on p. 2 of this thread and tried *# before the 5005 instead of ** before the 5005. That worked! It set my VM key to my own cell phone number. I believe this will give me the advantage of being able to dial in to my VM even when I'm on a cellular network other than my own (the network's voicemail number doesn't work if you just dial it, for some reason).

Now that I'm using the VM key to call my own number, it quite properly asks for my 4-digit VM passcode. You may like this! But the commas, I tried one or two in the string, won't be recognized for whatever reason, so you can't program the 4-digit passcode into the sequence and have it work.

So to get rid of the minor passwording inconvenience, I decided to try and switch the VM key back to the network voicemail number (in area code 805, for my brethren and sistern on T-mobile), and I discovered that ** before the 5005 will work, and *# before the 5005 won't work, when trying to switch it back. Strange but true. So now I can switch back and forth, and I hope so can you. I assume this was an iOS 5.1 fix.

Good luck to all. --Steve P., Washington, D.C., 19 Apr 2012.
